If it’s oil then most likely the rear seal.

How many miles?

You could clean it up and see how quickly it returns before heading to dealer.

I had a CVT seepage leak in my 2017 Honda. Noticed it during my first oil change. Cleaned it up. At my next oil change after 10,000 miles it was still dry.

Looks like a rear main seal. That sucks, that's not to uncommon for the 3.6. I have done a few of them throughout the FCA fleet of vehicles.

What I find odd about the 3.6 rear main seal housing is that there is enough play in it, that when you install the housing to the block, you can actually create a worse leak. Then the job has to be done again

LABLUE, you said that is not uncommon with the 3.6? I don’t have much experience with the 3.6, but this is the first I have heard, can’t be as big of a problem as the I6 4.0 right??? I have lots of experience with that in both a YJ and a XJ, leaks like a sieve. Constant driveway stains.

I am waiting on JT and if the same drive trains are offered I was going to choose the 3.6 mostly so I don’t have to deal with DEF fuild and I can get the M/T. It won’t be a deal breaker but it would be nice to get a break from the leaks for bit.

It's nothing like the 4.0 rear main seal leak. It happens but not like that. With the 4.0 it is/was not if but when will it leak. The 3.6 is usually fixed and then its good for a long time. Knock on wood haven't seen any return leaking again

This is the first time I've ever heard of the rear main seal of a pentastar being a semi known problem. This engine seems like the sole thing Chrysler and FCA do correctly. Very happy it hasn't bothered with garbage or unreliable tech like DI, cylinder deactivation, etc. Might just get Japanese-level longetivity out of one, even if the same cannot be said for the rest of the vehicle.

Hello mlotero,

We're sorry to see you're experiencing this leak. If we can be of any assistance while you work with the dealer, don't hesitate to reach out.

I have the same problem. Just waiting for the hail damage to get repaired, then it will go into the dealership for repair.

Just took my JL into the dealer and they said that the leak is coming from the back of the engine. And they would have to tear down the engine to find where the leak is coming from.

Mine was an oil pan issue
