We have two JLs. Both have the Ecodiesel engine, and both are wet under the engine/trans. No drips but clearly wet. Less than 3000 miles on each. Any thoughts to help me before going to the dealer? Here are the two:

I’ve heard of some guys getting an entire new motor from an EcoDiesel Oil leak. Makes me want to go look at mine....

Hopefully it’s an easy fix for you and they don’t want to replace the entire motor. That’s never a good thing unless you’ve got over 100k miles IMHO ...

Does this look like a slight weep to you?

I just cleaned mine off, going to monitor and see if it comes back. 3500 miles on it

It does to me. If it cleaned up like oil, then It’s probably oil. I don’t believe there should be any residual from the factory since it should be filled after it’s put together. Do they all weep?
Just checked mine 16000 miles no sign of oil at all. My wife gets her diesel this coming week I'll keep an eye on it.

This is interesting I've had zero issues with my EcoDiesel. Do you think it's possible we could all find the build date of our vehicles and see if there's some accountability in that? I remember reading or saw a YouTube video on a code found on the door, with the month day and time the Wrangler was built at the factory.

I’d be down to post my code. Be nice to know the meaning of it and if it corresponds to any potential leak there.

I'm down for the same. I've heard in the past regardless of the make or model, avoid buying a car or truck built on a Monday morning or a Friday afternoon.

Still waiting on our second EcoDiesel JL to come in this week.
Thanks for sharing. Having owned several new cars over the past 30 years never experienced an oil leak on a new engine.
Very interested to see if Jeep steps up and takes care of everyone with this issue (I'm talking new engine) Step-up FCA
and help us out.

Dealer replied after I sent them my photos in the first post. It’s one of two possibilities:

1. Lubricant from the factory for it’s long wait on the dealer lot.
2. A small bit of oil that weeps through the seals. The seals are always wet, and some oil may weep through especially during long idles.

The seals are not perfect. If it’s not dripping, all is good. Ripping it apart is a very bad idea if it’s not an actual problem.

I know the service manager and the tech and trust their judgment.

Thank you for the update!

I’m going to keep an eye on mine but I bet it doesn’t come back now that I’ve cleaned it off. The small bit of a stain that came off was very dry.
