Use my hand on door handle to open, move hand a few inches and press lock button, get out, close locked door Exterior button never used. Fob only removed from pocket to unlock gas cap with the key, with the key usually already popped open in my pocket, no button required there either. Edit—Fob sometimes also removed from pocket to shut the alarm off when that too F—ing easily pushed button gets pushed in my pocket.

I wonder if there is correlation between the need for multiple lock attempts and battery power....not mind you the (obvious) battery power of the battery in the fob already mentioned, but the vehicle's battery/ies.

I searched the forum and could not find a post about this. When I lock my 2023 JL by pressing the button on the exterior handle sometimes it locks with one press but about 75% of the time I have to press the button 3 times. I am pressing it the same every time so I am not sure what the issue is. I looked in the owner's manual and it only mentions "pushing the passive entry lock button will lock the vehicle doors and the swing gate". Does anyone else have this issue?
Turn the feature off and turn it on again? :)

I haven't had any difficulty. I keep my fob in my pocket all the time and always use the exterior button to lock (rarely use the inside lock button). I do often use the tailgate button as I walk by.

I’ve found there to be an odd “dead spot” where the fob reads slower. I keep my fob in my right pocket.

if I use my left hand it takes a minute to find the fob and acknowledge the location and lock.

If I use my right hand, I’m closer to the front, by inches, and it works every time.

Do not grip the handle when locking. Simply press the button from the outside.

Press only on the button on the outside of the handle to lock it.

If you put your hand on the back of the handle it triggers unlock.

DO NOT touch the handle in any way to LOCK. Just use a finger and press the button. DO wrap your hand around the handle to UNLOCK.
Yes! It took me a while to figure that out. Like OP half the time it wouldn’t lock because of this

Never even paid attention to being able to lock doors with that little button, lol. I typically hit the button on the inside of the doors right before I shut it.

Related note; is there an option to lock the doors when leaving the Jeep, and leave it running?? Because of the fob design, this can be done with the Durango. Reason I ask, when we take the dog with us and either go into a shop or restaurant, we will leave the engine running so the climate control maintains a good environment for him.

This sounds like user error with it not working properly.
It’s only user error because the owner’s manual is zero help and it works differently than every other brand I have owned or rented.

If you leave the Jeep running and take the key fob with you, you can lock the doors with the fob.
Or, at least, I have done it this way.
