I searched the forum and could not find a post about this. When I lock my 2023 JL by pressing the button on the exterior handle sometimes it locks with one press but about 75% of the time I have to press the button 3 times. I am pressing it the same every time so I am not sure what the issue is. I looked in the owner's manual and it only mentions "pushing the passive entry lock button will lock the vehicle doors and the swing gate". Does anyone else have this issue?

So far, it's only been one press for me. Does the passenger side door do the same?

Yes, the passenger side does the same thing.

Mine does that sometimes and other times it locks on the 1st try. Not sure if there are times that takes longer to detect the key outside of the vehicle. I have gotten in the habit of when I am walking towards the back locking using the tailgate and it seems to be more consistently locking on 1st push.

My assumption is that sometimes it just takes an extra beat for it to detect that the fob (and thus, me) has left the vehicle. I noticed that it needs multiple presses less frequently if I get out and wait just a second or two after I've closed the door before pushing the button.

Thank you. I will try that out.

You're not alone and thanks for posting this lol. Ill try both the gripping the handle and waiting a beat or 2 before locking

I haven't noticed this but my habit is to step out and press the button on the backdoor on my way by. That might be giving me the "second or two" that @rcadden suggested.

I had the same issue on a 2019 JLUR...

I definitely need to wait 2-3 seconds after getting out of my 2020 before pushing the button or it won't lock.

My 21 door handle lock button works on the 1st try about 8 out of 10 times.
