all this constantly transmitting fob and push start is extremely dumb
1. you get non detection issue, battery drain. fussing with rfid blocker...
2. prone to booster theft.

I want my transponder key + encrypted remote back

I searched the forum and could not find a post about this. When I lock my 2023 JL by pressing the button on the exterior handle sometimes it locks with one press but about 75% of the time I have to press the button 3 times. I am pressing it the same every time so I am not sure what the issue is. I looked in the owner's manual and it only mentions "pushing the passive entry lock button will lock the vehicle doors and the swing gate". Does anyone else have this issue?
I have a 22 Rubicon and mine does that sometimes too.

@S_McWilliams

You will get the knack of it. It's a you issue (your not being familiar with the vehicle) and not a JL issue.

In time.... with a little time spent with your JL, you will have no issues with proximity.
If it's really the vehicle being incapable of detecting a button being pushed until five seconds after closing the door then I'm not sure how it's a "you issue" and not an issue with the JL.

It definitely happens to me at least 25% of the time. I'll need to pay more attention to my (erroneous?) expectation that it should work as immediately as every other vehicle that I've ever driven with these types of locks.

I have a 2022 & it works every time unless I have my phone in the same pocket as the fob. I assume signal blocking.
same with me unless the button is completely frozen solid which has happened to me a bunch of times lol

I have been around many a JL with proximity.... again, many. With every one, I get out of the Jeep, close the driver's door and without touching the handle / other parts of the handle, I immediately take my index finger and press the small black lock button on the handle firmly. The doors then lock.

As mentioned, I am in contact with quite a few JL's (and JT's) each week that have proximity... all that I have been around have behaved pretty much the same..

Yes, early in 2018 when the JL first was dealt with by me I had issues similar to what other's mentioned/experienced in this thread... In short order I figured it out... figured out what I was doing to screw up the locking up process.

Yes, a JL/JT with proximity could possibly have issues..... but the issue is probably more often then not, the person doing the door lock deed.

Are you saying that the secret is to not touch the handle while closing the door?

I appreciate all of the replies and it works perfectly if your hand does not touch any part of the handle other than your finger only touching the button. I will make sure to let my wife know as her Audi and my daughter’s Toyota (along with my old Honda) have a small ridged area you touch to lock. It works with other fingers on the handle as long as your fingers aren’t on the back of the handle. That method doesn’t work on the Jeep.

You get out of the JL. Push the driver's door closed any way you want.... you can push the handle or whatever to close the door......and then just press the black door lock button with a single extended finger.. the doors lock.

Even with a @Threedom custom door handle, the behavior is exactly the same as with the stock handle...

Ok, I just went into the garage and experimented. I closed the door repeatedly, touched nothing but the button to lock it, and I got about a 80% success rate.

It sounds like others here get a lower success rate. You apparently have magic fingers if you're getting 100%.

I have a 2019 Overland (sahara) & have never had an issue except when I first got my jeep & kept holding the handle while pressing the button. I soon worked out it was user error & since then just close door & press button with index finger without touching the handle & not a single problem. Love my Wrangler ??

I've learned that NOT putting my hand through the handle / only touching the button is the answer. The same goes for my Audi and Honda.

You're not alone and thanks for posting this lol. Ill try both the gripping the handle and waiting a beat or 2 before locking
Do NOT grip the handle. That is most likely your entire issue.
