Double-honk when locking JL from door handle button?

I've encountered this situation off and on for a while where the horn double-honks rapidly (not the same as remote start) when I press the lock button on the door handle. Most other times it only gives me a single short burst which I understand to be the normal scenario. I thought it was supposed to mean that a door is not closed properly, but this morning I walked around and opened and closed every door and it still did the same double-honk. Maybe I didn't slam the door hard enough? The key fob was in my pocket as well so it's not that. Anyone know what else I should be looking at?

Well, it will honk 3 times (I think) if you lock it but the fob is not detected outside of the vehicle (preventing you from locking fob inside the vehicle). It's probably not that.

Other guess would be a slightly-faulty button where it thinks you're pushing it twice instead of just once. Does it do the same with all 3 door buttons or just one?

Mines has an even different reaction. Sometimes it beeps once, others it doesn't beep at all. I guess it's just another "wonder what it will do this time" Jeep thangs.

It’s either broken or you’re doing it wrong. If you grab the handle while pressing the button, that’s like issuing an unlock and lock signal at the same time.

Yup. ET that thing and it should lock on the first press every time.

Great question...I’ll check all the doors next time it happens and also try locking with the fob. As stated above, I’m definitely aware to ET it instead of grabbing the handle, lol.

Doesn’t sound right. Check that all doors are properly shut & also check your headlights. Are they set to “on” or “auto”? Or as mentioned above - are you grabbing the handle when pushing the lock button? Mine will honk once, locking with a single button press when I’m outside of it with the key fob. If I forget the fob inside, it won’t lock for me. I don’t think I get any honk. Perhaps if I kept pushing the button. Do you have a spare fob in your Jeep? Maybe it sees one inside & one outside and is having some conflict there?


Well just tested a few quick things. Key fob inside, nothing no honk or lock. Key fob inside w one on the outside, it’ll lock as “normal”

1-button press - lock/honk. Grabbing the handle & pressing the button confuses the system & locks on the first, second and/or third. In other words it locked, but sometimes it took an extra button press.

Lights “on”. Didn’t matter. Locked fine no different notification.

Mind you, this is all with my Jeep parked all night. Things could potentially change (like w lights on) if you’ve been driving & just shut it off.

Lately mine hasn't been locking on the first push on the door handle. Sometimes I have to pull on the handle and try again, it works then.
