The real problem is the Stop Start. The engine isn't running when you leave the Jeep. It turns back on later due to climate or voltage needs.
It restarts the instant you put it in Park.

OP went for a bike ride. Presumably outdoors where there is more noise and bustle. Less likely to hear the running motor than in an enclosed space. No one is saying that what OP did was ok (OP admits as such). But it apparently happens with some frequency according to Google.
So what is was noisy out...dont have to actually hear it to remember to shut it off. It's practically instinct.

Lights on, dash on, etc etc.

According to "google" lol...yes, if you want the truth search the internet lol

Leaving a car running like that isn’t a mistake. It’s negligence.
Probably. But negligence happens with regularity and I guarantee that every person on Earth has been negligent at some point in their life. Says an attorney.

I assumed you were joking with your hearing aid comment but maybe not.

Either way, there may be simple, cost effective measures Jeep can take to prevent this.

This was never an issue back when we had to put a key in the ignition... I hate solutions in search of problems. It’s the simplest thing in the world but people can’t be bothered to take a key out of their pocket or purse.

....which would lead people to be even lazier and more likely to be negligent.

Stop blaming the world around you.
