What did you guys do about the brakes? Did you keep the factory brake booster/master cylinder? Looking into doing the swap but I can’t find any upgrades for the JL brake system.
I have the factory dana60 /14bolt brakes . Abs ,cruise control and esc/speed control work fine .

Thanks for sharing your axle swap, that is such an awesome project and you got your daughter to help, even better!

Please post more projects, seeing this makes me want to be bold and do an axle swap myself...about 8yrs ago I did one, but paid an axle and driveshaft shop to do it for me, now that I have more time and patience, I think this would be so much fun to do, including getting the parts from a junkyard!

Thanks again, I really enjoyed this thread! 😀
I’ll be doing a DIY post for power steering cooler and Hydro assist soon. Just to help with the new axle and tire weight.

Looking at doing a one ton swap on my 2 door my main concerns are wheel speed sensors and control arms just curious what you did for the wheel speed sensors and I assumes factory frame side control arm mounts?

I am running sensors to the rear. Depends what axles you run for this.

Control arms can be left in the factory positions or moved if you go with a long arm kit. I used artec trusses which keeps the ability to use factory mounting positions

Are you running the artec super unit bearings to get 52tooth on the front 60? Looking at doing this myself (sd60/14b) but I’m getting a lot of conflicting info with the abs and tone rings.
I talked to Tom at Artec last night and he said even with 52tooth tone rings front and rear the JL’s aren’t like the JK’s where you can just use dodge sensors up front and everything works, it still lights up like a Christmas tree.
I’d like to get started on a set of axles here but I’m really stumped on how to approach this. I absolutely want to keep the abs/traction systems working (mainly for cruise control), and just need a solution that works

52 ring front and rear with 8x6.5 lug

jl sensor needs speed and direction. I have 8k miles on mine with zero abs issues .

Then I’m guessing the Artec tone rings on the sterling 10.5 and the weaver fab high steer to use Tie rod ends on the 05+ and a man will be set up. Awesome rig. Thanks for the info. I’ll make a call tomorrow morning.

Awesome build, I like seeing these DIY 1-ton swaps, really takes some ingenuity. Maybe we could get a Chevy Mitchell style write-up. He has me almost thinking I could do my own gear swap. I think I'd like to go 4.56 on my 30/44 combo.

This is the first time ever building an off road vehicle and I have done the gears, bearings, welded the trusses, DIY steering, tone rings, control arms, three link front and rear and now 14 inch coilovers. Lots of research take your time it will come together. Drives 90 mph down the highway and survived some trail beatings. Best mod so far was the Hydro assist steering.
