NO there ain't one and that is the problem.

JLR came with a Hard Top, great, what I wanted. However the Dept of Transportation aka Dept of Finance aka War Dept aka WIFE wants a soft top.

Since the JL did not come with a dual top option then the question is: Can I install a Soft top on my JLR and if so other than the TOP itself what other things do I need to buy to make it work, has any done this? NOTE I intend to buy a MOPAR Soft top.

Yes you can, mopar and bestop are essentially the same too, don't rule them out.

Everything comes with the Mopar kit in the link above, only thing you need to add is some sort of storage for your hard top. :) Dang, the price went up from last year...

Mm. Hopefully the "Dept of Finance" is more than just a sinecure. There's a $2,527.20 check that needs to be written...

If you watch your local marketplaces (this forum, Facebook, etc) you can usually get a good deal on a virtually unused soft top from someone who DID order the dual-tops and then never used the soft top. I see them practically NIB for ~$1.2K pretty regularly. On rare occasions you can snag one for closer to $600-700 if you move quickly.

That's what I'm holding out for.

I got my JLURD with the dual top and it has to be assembled first time.

True, but he's got a 2-door, which is not available with the dual-top group. Great suggestion for 4-door owners though!

@Old Jeeper, you will have to do some assembly (B-pillar, I believe, which is tied into the drip rail) but it is straight-forward. I'd recommend the twill top. I have the sailcloth, and while it's held up fine over the last 4 years, the twill top comes with a liner on the inside which makes it quieter on the road.

Thank you and what is the difference between the Twill and the Sail, I know there is 2 and one if kinda fuzzy looking and the other is a smooth surface?

Yes, the twill is the fuzzy-looking one (red Jeep), and the sailcloth is the smooth one (green Jeep). I wish I had a closer pic, but you can get a pretty good idea.

Also, the sailcloth is kinda gray on the inside, whereas the twill has a built-in black headliner, so it looks a lot nicer and helps with insulation IMO.

I bought my 2dr with the hard top. I waited until the Twill Soft tops went on sale and got it for roughly $2200 from Quadratec (the Mopar top). It comes complete with everything you need to install and it comes on a pallet. I also bought the Lange Hoist-a-Cart 2 from a forum member so that I could store the Hard Top in the summer on it (great piece of gear and super easy to take the hard top off or put it on without help). Be aware that when the soft top comes it could be "locked" and unable to open. You need to use the "latch" that allows it to fully open when on the Jeep to "unlock" it. I found this out after I partially damaged the new top (it ripped where it attaches to the back bow, not the top itself, just the "pocket" holding it to the bow). Installation was a breeze with two people (it's awkward trying to put it in place by yourself). I also bought from Quadratec the JL Soft top Storage Hanger for storing the soft top in the winter.

If you're in a warmer climate all winter and don't have to worry too much about security when parked, I don't see a significant reason to have a hard top these days.

I have had the sail cloth on my JKU and twill on my JL and the twill is definitely nicer. Seems to be easier to clean, hold up to fading better, and the textile itself seems softer, so I feel it's easier to manage and may hold up to regular use better long term. Twill is also a bit quieter.

Overall nothing wrong with sail cloth. I got it on my JKU because I was only able to get full soft doors in sail cloth to match and loved every second with that top as well.

Also recommend Quadratec to purchase your top through. There was a sale when I got mine in spring of 2022 and they even threw in a gift card of what I think was around $150.

Mopar/Bestop soft tops rarely go on sale, so keep your eyes peeled!
