JL welding Issues

I don't understand why this would matter considering some people at the plant that may be working on your Jeep may have had the past two weekdays off as "their" weekend. They all don't have Sat and Sun off is my point.

Automated manufacturing plants today are not like they were years ago.... they run multiple shifts and there is no Monday to Friday. There isn’t really much of a reason to think Sam or Sally got shit faced Sunday night and can’t get their shit together on Monday or it’s Friday 4:30 and their head is already in the weekend.

Most of the components like the dash and electronics, engines and harness are preassembled by vendors and QC’d. Then they are delivered in time for it to be installed all at once as they roll down the line.

just like Harley does lay off the experienced + higher paid for new cheaper workers, they are having issues with their newest M-8 engined bikes!! when workers are not happy they could care less about the finished product!!! today everything is about the $$$$. todays quality STINKS, all manufacturers are having issues like GM's cheap wheel bearings going out in very low miles, replaced by the same junk only to fail again when the warranty is gone!!!!

As Devil's advocate, those welds don't look that bad. Yes, those (relatively short?) sections are not good but from a strength perspective those areas *might* easily be just as strong if the were stitch welded. It is really not up for us to say without looking a whole bunch of additional documentation. Honestly, I don't think it is a big deal at all... and, however unfortunate, this will likely be the position that FCA takes.

The pictures you show on this thread are the same if not a little different weld on all the JL's at my dealers lot.

I haven’t responded anymore because without specs I can’t say what is in tolerance but to say the welds don’t look that bad? .. LOL.. those welds look like dog crap... I guarantee these Jeeps are way overwelded but the pics I’ve seen are piss poor. Period. If it’s in spec there’s nothing anybody can do about it but if the print says 1/8” porosity/ft the pic posted here is a fail... heck even 3/16/ft fails....

although it "may" not be an issue for most, those that push their jeeps to the limits "may' feel differently!!! offroaders will prolly have any warranty denied due to most modifications done by off-roaders!!

This pic is a typical weld on my mid priced imported lift. They all look better than the JL welds at issue here.

Yeah… those silly weld pores will be quickly filled with salt and mud… then they will be less visible… so we can get back to playing with our infotainment systems….

Probably not likely they'd replace the whole vehicle, but you never know. Not to oversimplify things but it wouldn't be terribly hard for a dealer to swap frames if FCA approved it. Toyota was swapping frames on some of their trucks years ago due to some quality issue. Forget if it was the T100, Tacoma or early Tundra's.

FCA will deny to the grave. The dealer will just say they don't see the problem. They've been screaming at my since my first new Jeep in 2006.

It was the Tacoma's. Lets say the welds are horribly bad. Like these experts on here are saying. They the frame will rust or bend and it will be covered under warranty.

Years ago? I saw a flatbed tractor trailer outside my local Toyota dealer YESTERDAY with a dozen frames stacked up being delivered.

I recently sold my 2010 Tacoma regular cab 4x4 manual, and had just gotten the frame warranty extension notice for it - something like 12 year/unlimited mileage coverage for inspection, coating, and/or replacement.

Frame issues suck. They devalue a vehicle greatly, and introduce potential safety issues. A bunch of Internet evaluations of a few pictures doesn't reflect on the structural integrity of that frame, but man if I hadn't cancelled my order and had a $45k Rubicon come in looking like that I would refuse delivery - IF I thought to inspect the frame before signing, because why should this fall on the customer?

(sigh) I feel for you man - that is pure BS that they are coming off the line like that. Its always the same, companies will cut corners to try to get away with as much as they can until they get thier you-know-what slapped.

In MA where I purchased this thing, they
have “lemon laws” to protect consumers against issues like this. You may be able to use leverage that - I don’t know.

Something to consider with a lawyer - I will be calling mine if my mechanic finds these issues.

While installing my winch I noticed some frame welds that were solid rust and unpainted so today I spent the day going through the entire frame finding spots here and there that had no paint or coating on them. I wire brushed them and cleaned them with Prep-All and then painted them with Rustoleum.
It was weird. Like the frame got down the line and had to be spot welded after the paint work was done. There was a lot of porosity in the welds as well as others described too.
Figured it was better if I just addressed it myself. Still love my JL and have no regrets buying it. Just could not ignore seeing those rusted welds.
