Yes because another model year could not have the robot that does the welding fail and slip past inspection... Sorry but that reason is not a reason in my opinion to wait. There are valid reasons I can see but this is not one of them.
When I ran a production rail car line, the rail car were inspected in 3 or 5 packs, meaning 1 delivery was either 3 railcars or 5 rail car humped together... most welds were inspected but not all. I guarantee this is an anamoly and will not be the norm...like everyone else, I would need pics.. undercut welds are unacceptable if you can hook it with a fingernail.. porosity in rail is 1/8”/foot so that mean 1little bubble...Frame steel is welded at a really high temp and I’m guessing it’s done with a hard wire which typically requires a shielding gas of 75/25 CO2/Argon....if the gas supply runs out you will know immediately as it splatters everywhere...I have no idea of the specs..so, all assumptions.

Agree. It’s the same welders and material (so far, until the tariffs force change) that’s been used on every other vehicle.

I'd be really interested in seeing pictures of this. It's not impossible but it would be a major lapse in the QC process and if that happened this could be a major safety issue for other vehicles too.

This is scary thinking about how many frames may have passed QC in this condition. 99% of owners will have no idea whether their Jeep is affected unless Jeep issues a TSB. I personally wouldn’t know a good weld from a poor weld. I would document everything with pics and contact the NHTSA.

Ok, welding 101... there are 6 kinds of weld joints. Butt, Lap, Corner, T and Edge. Here’s a picture of the kinds... QC.. no holes in the weld, holes are known as porosity, weld should be convex, not concave, of course NO CRACKS, they usually happen at the end of the weld in whats known as the crater.. rule of thumb for weld size.. half the thickness of the base plate plus an 1/8”.... if you look at the welds on your rig and see holes or cracks there is a problem... here’s a pictures of joints also what porosity looks like and crater cracks... my opinion is this will not be a huge problem.. issues are usually caught quick.

Lastly, everything I’ve stated is regarding steel...Aluminum and Magnesium is different, same principle but different procedure...good aluminum welds look like stacked dimes

Well we'd like to see some pictures of what the shops talking about.

Holy cow those welds are terrible! It looks like splatter too that a previous poster mentioned. I would be requesting a new vehicle!

These are a few pics but almost all welds in the frame looks like this. Extremely poor quality.

If they don't get you a new jeep ASAP for free I would contact a lawyer. Good luck with your new headache.

I took a look under my frame as well for comparison. Some porosity but it does not appear to be as severe.
