No, the Z Auto camera solution is elegant and simple, but it's low-res. I even switched out the camera twice. It's a limitation in the head unit.

No, not quite. I agree with the OP, that it'd be nice to have as good of an image in the front as it is in the back.

Have to admit, I've also been curious if a retrofit is possible onto my 2018 since it became a factory option on newer ones, but haven't looked into it in a while.

The front camera option utilizes the Gladiator grille inserts, almost positive the grilles are the same. Cost savings.Here it is on my Wrangler.
Heads up...You get the wider spaced grill mesh to fit the camera I ASSume.

To the OP, my understanding is that the harness ties into several areas, the connection on the head unit is different, rear camera connection/harness is different, software programming, etc. and would not be feasible to retrofit. I have not and have no desire to tear mine down to find out for sure. The dealership parts department should be able to identify the different parts and part numbers between one without the camera and one with the camera if they had VINs for each.

It was done on gladiator forum. Very costly and very complicated. You'll need to replace your rear camera too as it is different between vehicles with and without front camera.
