Hi folks,

Looking at the JL Audio Stealthbox amp rack...I was just going through the instructions prior to purchasing.

It looks like the under-seat duct would blow right onto the amp using this rack.

I'm in Utah, so a good portion of the year the heater will be running. This rack doesn't sound like the optimal solution for the amp placement in my climate. Is anyone using this rack? What are your experiences?

Thanks!

I'm wondering if I put the bracket in a vise and bent the angle up more (so it was higher up on the vent end), and then put some spacers under the "feet". I wonder if it'd still have room under the seat and clear the vent.

Just thinking...

Then you are just heating the bottom of the amp. It's a pretty piss poor design.

I would think air flow would be best, even if warm.

Just a thought.

I'd be more worried about the amp on the floor during water crossings.

Not sure how hot it is out of those, but the heat from the front vents melts my air freshener.

Yeah, it seems like a bad location. Even still, the bracket is not a great design...blowing heat right onto the amp. There's room enough under there to get it higher, but yeah, under the back seat seems much more ideal.

Just remove the vent all together lol it just pops out. It's pressure fitted and can be removed very easily.

While I don't like the vent blowing on the amplifier, I doubt that it will cause issues. JL's class D amplifiers don't generate nearly as much heat as the older class A/B amplifiers. I have one of their XD500/3v2 mounted inside the spare tire in a S2000 (very limited space) with absolutely no ventilation, and it has never had any issues. It has been in constant operation in a daily driver for about 6 years with 115° summers.

At least with the JLU, the problem with putting it under the back seat is that it would get in the way of putting the seats down for loading cargo.
