Should I be concerned about a jingling noise when my new 392 starts up? It quiets down after about 2 minutes of running. if the engine has been running recently, a warm start does not make the noise.

I speculate that its the timing chain and there is a hydraulic tensioner that has to get pumped up to start working.

thoughts?

thanks.

This is totally normal they all do it it’s in the 392 supplement that comes with the owners manual. Once the exhaust heats up it tightens everything up and stops squeaking.

Yup, what Matt said. Completely normal.

I have a hemi in a Ram. It makes a dry sound at start up. Most times. Does not do it when warm

Hello. I know everyone says it is normal, but in my opinion, there is the hemi-tick (stated in the manual) vs the whine or squeak. I have a thread (392 Squealing upon startup / Recorded audio) that has the sound. I have spoken to several people and gotten a few more recordings showing the difference between my 1st 392 (no squeak), my current 392 (squeak) and two other folks (no squeak). I have been the dealership several times, no answer. I am going to talk to a lawyer soon as I didn't pay all this money to have my engine sound like a 1980's v8 with a belt issue.

This link has the different recordings: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jstlPm4oRySWWa1vW8zv0UJ-XWbB5h2r?usp=sharing.

Was this just happening over the holidays? Maybe it was Jingle bells?

My 392 and my TRX both do this.

My '21 did it, and my '22 does it too. Only on start-up, and only on cold starts. Goes away in a few seconds, so it's not really a big issue to me. To each his own though.

Any idea what it is? I hear the hemi tick (A light ticking sound) separately, this sounds like a belt or a pully.

I'm not sure what I am supposed to be hearing. Your video sounds just like my two 392 Wranglers do/did and my old SRT GC did. Also, I heard the same jingling on a Grand Wagoneer with the 6.4 when I was test driving it. It was quieter with all the sound insulation the GW had, but it was undeniably there.

Congrats on your 2nd 392! I remember reading your old thread about a hissing noise under acceleration, I'm curious if your new ride still sounds the same.
