With the impending arrival of the super Arctic temperatures and possible ice, snow and sleet, make sure to check your coolant levels and wiper blades and adjust your air pressure accordingly. Don’t forget to take any can or glass or bottle drinks out of your Wrangler if they sit outside. Take out all portable electronics that may be damaged from freezing temps. Don’t remote start any Jeep that has a fabric cover over it as it may allow carbon monoxide to get trapped inside the cabin area. Don’t remote start any vehicle in an enclosed garage that is closed up.

Stay safe and warm during this 3-4 day event and if you do venture out to go wheeling know your limits and post up some good winter area pics of your location.

Feel free to add any other recommendations that you may see fit to share with others that are possible new drivers or new to the forums.

Again, be wise and stay safe…

Additional note:

I know those hybrids can be a struggle at times. For any 4xe’s having trouble starting up in this cold weather, I’d be happy to help em warm up!

Assuming that this is a snow/cold experience.
If you decide that it’s necessary to venture out assume that you are going to get stuck in the snow and carry the clothing and equipment for you and your passengers to:
1. Dig yourself out;
2. Be comfortable while digging out;
3. Walk to shelter;
4. Hunker down in the Jeep for the duration if you can’t get unstuck;
5. Be visible in all of these situations.

Someone might come save you but they might be stuck themselves so don’t count on rescue. You could potentially be spending multiple days in the jeep.
Leave home with a full tank of gas.
…off the top of my head some stuff to bring along includes warm clothing(not cotton and not electric), warm gloves, extra warm gloves, overmitts, wind/snow shell with hood, possibly a face mask and goggles for high wind conditions, gators, warm boots, kahtoolas (or equivalent), reflective vests/jackets/whatever, headlamps, more water than you think you need, electrolytes, high calorie snacks (nuts, carbs, etc.), small first aid kit. any critical meds… (keep all the clothing/supplies in easy to access duffel bags), and snow shovels (a small one for digging under the vehicle and a grain scoop for clearing a path), etc. .
Don’t run the vehicle if it’s got a skirt, or more, of snow around it- people regularly die of carbon monoxide poisoning this way.
Don’t get out of the vehicle if it’s in a roadway unless it’s safe to do so.
Don’t stand/loiter in the roadway.
If the vehicle is in a spot where it’s likely to get hit DONT try to dig it out- get your warm gear and get away from the danger.
Flares are always good but have limited life.
Be sure to leave with a fully charged cellphone and have a charging cord.
Or you could just stay home and have a refreshing citrusy IPA next to a warm fire listening to Bill Withers Lovely Day playlist planning how you are going to waste more money on unnecessary mods for your jeep and the adventures you are going to have when the risk is less severe.
Or just go and see how things turn out.
This much freedom to choose has never been greater in the history of mankind - savor it.

John, great advice!

I think I will sit in my front yard with my dogs, sipping a citrusy Voodoo Ranger IPA, while wearing shorts, t-shirt, and sandals here in SW Florida. ?

Makes no sense not to go out and play in the cold. - except super cold. Best time of the year besides our simply beautiful summers. Way below freezing + rain = fun times. But anything negative temp becomes a bit much. Haha!

Yesterday at about zero. Skied plenty of fast laps with the gang then Apres ski at the pub. Salmon burger and pitchers of ice cold beer to quench your thirst - simply fantastic! Yes cold is nice but super cold not so much.

As alluded to already, carry preps for yourself as well as for the vehicle. Conditions may devolve such that the soles of your boots, and not the fancy Nitto tires on the Jeep, will get you to safety.

I've two Get Home bags in the Jeep: one for vehicle ops and one for me.

The Jeep's bag includes the usual stuff: entrenching tool, a pair of FRS radios w/spare batteries, lithium jump starter, 20' recovery tow strap, snow brush and window scraper, cash for gasoline, etc. I'll sometimes carry a spare gallon of -30° washer fluid, depending on prevailing road conditions.

The bag for Me includes a sealed bottle of Pedialyte, shelf-stable high energy food bars, hand and foot warmers, jacket/gloves/knit cap, Gold Bond foot powder, and a few other items specific to my personal use case.

-------------------

I'll let the fuel tank get below half once in a while, but only when the weather is mild and never during the Cold Times™. Just last night was I thinking about fitting my red Rotopax to the spare tire's carrier plate, too.

For highway/normal driving: Basic self rescue kit, basic survival kit, extra warm clothing, fill the fuel tank and keep it topped off, and for our Rubicon friends keep your mitts away from the locker button UNLESS you are stuck, then turn them off once you’re moving again. (You can thank me later). Put ‘er in 4 Hi and drive it like it had only 2wd rear wheel drive and you can go wherever you want.

Great advice from you all.

So what’s the current temps where you all are at, and what’s the forecasted temperature for Tuesday?

Currently -10 in my little corner of the midwest. The blizzard warning has expired but overnight low will be -21. Wind chills tomorrow morning may get to 40-45 below. With the snow, I had cracked open the garage door a bit to keep it from freezing to the floor, but with it getting this cold, I had to close it. We've got an attached garage but it isn't heated. Stay safe, Jeepers.
