Jeep Tracking Driving Behavior Now

Just saw this in my Jeep app travel history. The only reasons they'd want to track this is to use it to deny you warranty repair, and to sell to your insurance company. We need a good howto on disabling the telemetry without breaking features.

heres some info for the telematics unit:

purple cell antenna 1
pink cell antenna 2
blue gps antenna
brown satellite radio antenna


It also tells me that i hard turned or hard acceleration just by backing out of my garage...at like .02mph

on the UAQ/UAS you could do this...

Speaking of leaving ample distance between cars, am I the only one who feels that the max range on the ACC is still too short?

I actually think the minimum distance is too long, lol.

One dash configuration versus three?

The prior Uconnects (5, 7, 8.4" screens) didn't require separate dashboard configurations. They each occupied the same position, using plastic trim pieces as required for aesthetics. The HVAC panel dimensions remained static, also. Buttons were added only in relation to the corresponding head unit's functionality.

Yes, you're the only one. I haven't counted the number of seconds, but max range on mine is incredibly far away. Maybe yours is defective?

I don't have that feature on mine, so I can't speak to it.

My jeep accelerated hard for a jeep (diesel), and I've been told to drive it hard once a while to keep it clean...

Well, we don't have much traffic up here, and I rarely go on the highway, so I haven't tested it much.

But yes, when approaching a slower vehicle in front of me it gets too close before slowing down.

Either the sample rate was too slow, or these things are made to exaggerate the statistics to make you look like a bad driver so they can jack your insurance rate up.

Probably a little bit of both.



This sort of thing needs to be compelled legally, but that would be too much "government overreach in private business" and "If the buyers don't want to be tracked, simple, don't buy vehicles that track you!"

I love my technology but I want to buy things that benefit me, and only me. Every now and then I get the urge to rip that stupid 8.4" swatbox out of my jeep and stuff something in that I actually have control over. That urge gets bigger every time there's a news article like this lol.

here some titbits.

• the black box controlling the air bag will keep the last 5 seconds before the airbag is deploy. this is how they know the speed, if you attempted to break before impact and other interesting information on how you where driving.
• Back 10 years ago, there was a push to install a apps on your phone that monitor your driving and give you discount if you are good driver. This rage all diapered because they where unable to distinguish if you where actually driving our just a passenger. It was particularly giving bad rating to peoples bus ridding while standing.
• Be happy that you do not have driver facing camera to monitor your status, especially drowsiness. So you can use the excuse that some one else was driving.
• For a short period of time I enabled the speed nanny for fun. They do not need anyone doing manual labor to know if your are speeding the GPS will do it for them. Yes I disable it, I no longer get told to slow down, but is the information continue to be register somewhere ?

Yep. There have been a few legal battles.US consumer protection and privacy laws are pretty lame and most companies who are keen on harvesting and selling data use the "implied consent" model meaning in the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA), you agree to let them track and sell your data by using their services. Most of the time to avoid legal trouble, it's assigned a random number, but it's still tracked and can be sold. Apple, Google, and I believe Samsung have all gotten whacked for this process by some of the more serious privacy law states. It was harder previously but they sell the data sets to Marketing Warehouses, and either there, or the customers (companies) who buy them then use algorithms to sort through it and figure out a buyer profile/ demographic for each data set. With the proliferation of AI, it's gotten easier for companies to do this.

As the saying goes: If you aren't paying for the product, you are the product. Data is the new big money item, and it cuts both ways.

Unfortunately, part of living in the modern world. If you Jeep isn't tracking you, your phone definitely is...

I guess Opt out of whatever you can, and do your best on the rest. That's coming from someone who has worked a number of years in Marketing and IT.
