Jeep Wrangler JL Jeep JL advice needed for longterm 20200111_175615

Finally after 60days of waiting the JLUR got delivered.
1) I noticed the oil level is above the marks on dipstick/dipwire, dont understand how thats possible dont they check that at the factory when they built it, now i got to empty 1/2 to 1 liter out i guess... or is that where it needs to be?
2) water was leaking in from above rearview mirror, guess i could just pull the weatherstripping forward a bit? Is that normal?
3) got the alpine system with 8.4" the sound is ridiculously horrible, anyone know of any options for that to help get some quality sound, without replacing amps, receivers etc
4) theres a few scratches on some of the framing where bare metal is visible, not sure if i should just paint it and its done...
5) in regards to rustproofing is there a decent methodolgy to it? I know the jks had plugs available for frame so water doesnt pool up in there, is the JL vulnerable to that as well, Or can it be just rust proofed at a shop and its good to go?

Im looking to keep this jeep more as a vehicle for long term and not a trade in if theres anything else i missed to help ensure this jeep is fit for duty/maintained properly any advice i get would be beneficial. Thanks so much.

I would look to fix the leak under warranty. That is not at all normal.

When you say the sound is horrible- what do you mean? Static, volume? The 8.4 has been pretty reliable in the sound department.

I’ll leave the rust proofing information to those up north. We Texans don’t have a lot of opinion there :)

Did you buy it new or used?

The leak is not normal. I would have the dealer take care of it. The last thing you want is give them any silly excuse to void your warranty.

My Alpine sounds amazing. Are your sure it is not the source? For instance, I stream music with Pandora: the sound is great. Recently I subscribed to Amazon Prime and was shocked how poor the sound quality is on the exact same audio equipment.

If you are listening to SiriusXM, it is notorious for compressing data to the point that it reduces the quality of sound. I don't bother with XM any more.

Fairly typical build quality for the wrangler. The 8.4 sound issue is odd though.

Regarding rust proofing: I prefer an annual maybe twice a year application of Fluid Film. I’m not sure plugs are necessary.

Yes. There are several levels of Pandora: free Pandora, Pandora Plus and Pandora Premium. I have been listening to Pandora Plus for five years now. For $58/year I have access to more songs than I have time to listen.

You should listen to free Pandora to see if you like the sound.
With your phone paired to the Jeep
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on your phone
  • Go to Uconnect on the Jeep
  • Hit Media. You should be able to see the Pandora controls there
Once you pair your phone, Pandora should connect automatically with the Jeep as long as you leave Bluetooth on.

FYI - I you have a Samsung Galaxy phone: whenever you reboot the phone the media volume automatically reverts to medium level; that’s the default. If you raise the Media volume all the way up, it will allow you to control the volume through the Jeep’s system as if it were radio or any other source. If you leave your phone’s Media volume at mid level, the audio sound will come out the Jeep’s speakers rather muted.

Good luck!

Ok perfect, thanks for the info. Beats replacing speakers, headunits amps subs etc hahaha

For Rust Proofing: If you're in the rust belt, do Fluid Film or Wool Wax. It's basically something you heat up and spray gun it on the underside/ frame to protect it from rust. I believe it's partially oil and partially wax based on the properties when it heats up. It's worked great for a couple friends and their winter daily drivers so we'll see how it does on my JLUR.

For audio: I use Spotify on my phone. Tons of music and podcasts, and you can make playlists, or use the Spotify generated ones. Main difference from Pandora is it's like a library- you can pick stuff, vs. just picking a playlist or radio station. It's free, but has ads. I think it's $10/mo for single Premium or $15/mo for Spotify Premium Family (up to 4 premium accounts linked to your account, I think).

Congrats on your new Jeep! Others have you covered on your questions, so I won’t chime in. I basically wanted to say , I appreciate the way you went about asking your questions. Very controlled, not freaking out calling it a piece of shit, and willing to address some of the issues yourself. Good job brother! Enjoy.....:)

Im also a srt8 challenger owner, and everytime that car went in for service the dealer mechanics scratched the rims, they dented the fender (minor) than fixed it (horribly), and fixed it again using third party (horribly) than gave up than i fixed it perfectly, they scratched the side mirrors, interior dash, and leather. So yah not going to dealers unless i have to, now this is a jeep i guess i have to be okay with scratches and dents but still dont know how im going sleep when they happen hahaha. Thanks brother, im proud to be here

There are other threads on this but I believe 5qts of oil should go to the top of the hatch marking on the dipstick but not in to the bulbous area above that.

I will answer a few. The oil if it is just over won’t hurt anything in my mind. Just leave it be. The stereo should be just fine HOWEVER go into the adjustments and turn on the eq and adjust some settings. Made a world of difference but the Alpine is just fine. Rust proofing I did a knock off of Line X. Local shop did the entire underside for $600.
