This has been YEARS since I posted my comment, but---of course now and before I HAVE/HAD jeeps and if you are JACLING UP to work on WHEEL/TIRE/AXLE/WHEELWELL and you JACK below that coil SPRING/AXLE) FOR SAFETY(YOURS) just put the JACK STAND UNDER THE AXLE TUBE !!!
Remember, that AXLE STAND is for YOUR SAFETY not to take it easy on the AXLE TUBE and you should leave the JACK--IN PLACE-

If you're doing more work, the FRAME is more safe and careful--as pablo says !

Good luck

JIMBO

Jimbo,

Thank you! The problem I’m having is the fact that my 3-ton floor jack is too big to fit into place under the coil spring. The shock mount interferes with the jack.

Perhaps then I should attempt jacking up from the frame?

I normally only use the jack when I rotate the tires. Since I use the spare wheel, there is generally no need to jack up more than one side at a time.
Just use the spot mention in the manual and put the stand under the tube or frame and lower the jack until some weight, but not all the weight is taken by the stand. Otherwise, should the jack fail, it would likely just break the stand also.

If I am working under the car I only jack if the wheels MUST be removed, otherwise I use a good set of ramps or big ass blocks of wood so there is a low chance that anything bad could happen.

VALKYRIE-We're talking JEEPS here, BUT--- It doesn't matter whether it's a CHEVY/FORD or a VOLKSWAGEN --when you're doing any work underneath and you have to raise the vehicle !!!--you must plan for you safety-

Maybe you're just changing a flat, or you have to get UNDERNEATH THAT BEAST-

---------------------------GRAVITY-------------------------------

It's not prejudiced, so--in a GARAGE it's pretty simple, but when you're on the TRAIL and you blow a bead, or break AXLE things can get pretty HAIRY--

Always THINK BEFORE you start playing with THOUSANDS of POUNDS !

Good luck
