I will note that my other homelinks work when the vehicles are not running but this one did require the vehicle to be running for me to program it or for it to work now that I have it programmed. My others work when the vehicle has just been turned off. Not the Jeep.

Good point. The garage door opener will NOT work if the Jeep isn't running. I assume this is to prevent people from opening your garage when you have the top and/or doors off.
Have you tried opening the door with the Jeep on after programming?

To my knowledge, the ignition just needs to be in the RUN position (engine does not need to be running) and the Homelink is alive and will open devices it is associated with.

I might mention that there is a simple mod that you can do that leaves Homelink live, even if the JL's ignition is in the off position.

Could you provide a link on how to do this.

I am having the same issue with not getting the homelink to sync. My garage door motor is an old lift-master. I called homelink and they said it would not sync unless I had the original remote so I have ordered one to test and see if that works. As a side note, I have programmed 3 other cars this year with the same remote I am trying now - Expedition, Outback, BMW. The directions are basically the same for all 3 manufacturers. If anyone figures it out and can post directions please do!

It took me 3 tries. Like you the first couple times, I got no response out of the lights. The the 3rd time it worked with ease.

I'm having problems with an old lift-master as well. Would you post if the original remote works? My lift-master has the square learning button on the garage door motor so I spent multiple trips back and forth pushing the learning button and the jeep homelink button. I gave up when I broke the spring on the garage door which cost $300 to replace.

JL must be running as the button once programmed will only work if engine is running (security).

Anyone else having issues programming their garage doors with the sun visor homelink? I am doing the steps exactly like the videos show but it won’t work. My guess is user error but can’t figure out what I am missing. Help please :crying:

- Changed to new batteries for opener
- Put ignition to “run” without starting
- Held buttons 1&3 to erase memory
- Placed opener within 1” of buttons
- Press and held opener and button 1 simultaneously
- Slow blinking never speeds up indicating that it took...even after 1 minute of holding both opener and button down.
- same with different garage door openers and different visor buttons.
Our jeep programmed easily. We have 3 bay doors and each one with a different generation of tech. One from 1990’s, one from early 2014, and one manufactured in 2017. My 2009 Mercedes requires a chamberlain bridge to allow my car homelink to work with the two newer openers.

Anyone having problem with three vehicles? I have a new garage door opener. I have to press the programming button on the opener when syncing a remote. I programmed the first two vehicles without a problem. When I tried to sync the Rubi...my pickup truck no longer would open the door! If I repeat the programming using the truck...the Rubi's opener will no longer work! I can use two vehicles remotes but not three!

No issues with a brand new LiftMaster. Jeep not started but in run position.

FINALLY GOT IT!!!!! :rock::clap::like:

After sitting in my driveway for over an hour trying to get this stupid thing to program and trying 100+ combinations of button presses with engine running vs off in the run position my wife comes home from work and suggests I try using her garage door opener instead. It was like out of a sitcom. I was literally saying “Honey, it can’t seriously be that eas....” and then it works. Garage door goes down on first try.

My recommendation - try using another opener if you are having issues. Must have been something wrong with mine.

I got mine to work the first time with both of my garage door openers. One is a Marantec, one is a Genie. I had the engine on.

One thing I learned about my Genie, besides being a POS. They had a batch around 2013 or so where the rolling code didn't work correctly and wouldn't work with HomeLink. Of course this included mine. I had to get a new remote to get it to work.
