I think it sounds normal to me, I was a bit self conscious about the "tick" sound of my 3.6L until I walked through a few parking lots and the other JLs sound exactly like mine. I'm still a bit concerned about my 1->2 shift in the 6MT, it just feels a little "grindy" on the shifter when the tranny is cold, no grind noise just a bit of a feel.

My 2014 4.6L Tundra has made an odd ticking/clattering noise at WOT since new and I have almost 90K on it with no problems. When I go WOT with the windows down, I hear it all the time. Since I have a ton of miles on it with no problems, I feel that it is normal. I know it is a bit of apples to oranges comparison.

EDIT: With the Tundra, I'm glad that I didn't dig in and have the dealership pull the engine apart when it was under warranty.

I had major ticking and clattering issues. I then switched to 5W-30 full synthetic, well over a year ago. It has purred like a kitten ever since. I did another oil change yesterday, and it is smooth as silk.

Seems like it's a Mopar thing... I had a Challenger and a Durango both with the 5.7L and they developed the 'hemi tick' after about 1yr. Now I'm starting to hear it in my Wrangler with 25K mi. Maybe I'll try thicker oil like others suggested.

Lifter and fuel injector tick sound very similar. Get a stethoscope and you’ll be able to hear where it’s coming from since they are right next to each other. I’m guessing fuel injector.

The shop said it’s normal and nothing to be worried about so I’ll just use a 0/5W30 next oil change and see what happens

It sounds like my brand new 2024 rubicon with the 3.6 engine. I wouldn't worry about it.

36K miles and regular oil changes, could anyone tell me if this is normal or is this the dreaded tick? Dealer had it close to the end of warranty and said it was fine but I don’t really trust them. The video makes it sound a little louder than it is and the drivers side is about the same but can’t really hear it on the video

Ive noticed on two occasions over the last 6 weeks or so mine will sound just like that at start up, and then seems to go away once it warms up. Mine is a 2020 JLU 3.6l with about 8500 miles on it. Oil changed once a year, oil level is fine, I check it regularly. Most times at start up I don't really have that tick so its really noticeable when it happens.

Update:

Ticking about the same but I had another shop look at it and he said it sounded like the rocker arms. I'm at 58K miles now. Does anyone have the updated rocker arm part #? He says I should go OEM and is contacting a dealer to get the part but any suggestions on aftermarket rockers? I saw some OEM rockers are $130 a piece? Was I reading that correctly?

I got them from www.allmoparparts.com for $89.44. I ended up not using them and will be returning them (away for the holidays) when I get back home, unless you find they are not available, I have 6 intake rockers, that I can sell for the cost I got them for.

I may take you up on that, I’ll get back to you Monday or Tuesday when my mechanic calls me. He’s supposed to see about getting parts from his supplier. If he can’t then I’ll message ya. Can you tell me which parts you purchased for this repair? Why are the exhaust arms significantly cheaper than the intakes

The intake and exhaust rocker arms are completely different designs. The intake are the variable lift type with three rolling/sliding surfaces per rocker. The exhaust are the same old roller rockers we’ve always had.

All Mopar parts Post of Parts and Tools

Just FYI, like mwilk012 stated, the Intakes are different than the Exhaust. Also, the exhaust rocker and lifters are a sold assembly and the Intake are separate Rockers & Lifters. Also, the Intake lifters are not sold in the Intake kits and need to be purchased on top of getting the Intake Kits. Benny had sent me a parts list with the part numbers for all the parts (except the Right Intake Cam Shaft) that would have come in the Right Intake Kit because I was (at the time) getting a e-bay Right Intake Cam Shaft due to the OEM back-order of them. Then I was lucky to find & buy the ONLY Right Intake Kit available and that is how I have the extra parts I never used and was planning to just return.

Sorry for not getting back sooner. Appreciate the offer, looks like it’ll be a few more weeks before the mechanic is able to take it apart and start working on it so I’m gonna wait a little bit before I order the parts. Thank you though!
