Got under the Jeep today to try to install my Quadratec hitch (which I wasn't able to do, BTW) and I saw this on the muffler. Is this normal for a Jeep with <500 miles? Or any Jeep for that matter. Is there a layer on a new muffler that's supposed to burn off?

I'd say no it's not normal, but that picture makes it hard to see what's actually going on.

Looks more like something plastic melted onto it. Is the outer casing actually breached?
Yeah. That peeling is from the inside out. Something peeling off, not fusing on.

I was going to say the same thing, it's just hard to tell from the picture.

Sounds like a warranty claim then. Never seen anything like that happen. Manufacturing defect.

I was actually mistaken. Went out to get a better photo and discovered it actually seems like a rectangular sticker or something that melted and is peeling off. Not sure if it was meant to be there or not, but seems OK. So, false alarm I guess and good eyes, guys. Thanks.

Nah. All good. The way the middle had melted through and the edges curled around had thrown me off. Just some kind of melted sticker or label. Thanks.

That's correct. No reason to worry. The dealer forgot to take the sticker off is all that happened. Same thing happened with mine, but I caught it the same day I brought it home so was still able to remove it before it was melted on.

Why is there a line of weld on there? My 2019 is one smooth sheet of steel the whole bottom.

No idea. But thanks for giving me something new to worry about.

As you've already ascertained, that's an information sticker slapped onto the muffler. Mine has the same sticker, but at ~1600 miles it's still somewhat legible and I could obviously identify it as a sticker with product numbers, production dates, etc on it. I'm curious why yours looks so charred and melted at such low mileage.

Which engine do you have? Maybe different engines produce different temp of exhaust gas? I have 3.6L

Went and looked again. It is one smooth sheet of metal. The weld is for some sort of backbone that runs along the muffler to support the straps I think.
