I want to say the red light has something to do with the security system. Why it popped up out of no where, that I cannot comment on.

Well I will say it has something to do with Aux battery and main battery being not able to start the jeep. I knew I was having start up issues the past couple days and know it is from the damn Aux battery set-up (I manually turn ESS off right after I start up). When I got the jeep started today, it took a few times before it started and then got the ESS message (though the indicator never came up) and I noticed that red led while I was driving.

Well me and my family ALMOST got stranded due to my stupidity. When we got off the highway and had to stop at the a light to turn, I decided to shut the engine off and restart, thinking it would get rid of the red led…NOPE. Jeep wouldn’t start at all and was forced to call the FL Road Assistance. While waiting for the Road Ranger to arrive, after 10 min, I decided to lock and unlock the jeep with my fob and after I did that I tried to start the jeep…IT STARTED UP (not nicely or first time) but started up nonetheless. Called off the Road Ranger and headed home to go change to the Ford Fusion and head back to where we were going in the first place.

Anyway, the red led has something to do with the batteries not having enough juice to start the engine. I will be definitely now going with the new Gennesis Dual Battry ESS System.

The red light means that the Jeeps passive security system is armed.
It should blink whenever you lock the doors.
That said, it working while the Jeep is running most likely indicates battery issues like you suggested.

Just toss in a new main battery, unplug the Aux battery, and pull one fuse. Easy 10 minute fix. I've had mine fixed, and running fine for a long time. Read this thread.

@DoltonGang

Was already planning on doing this and did it this morning. Pulled fuse, disconnected Alt battery negative and wrapped in electrical tape. Then jumped started the JLUR with the fusion and all is good. I don’t think I need to put a new main battery in as it is now charging fine at 14.1 V per indicator and will still hit the ESS button in the mean time.

You might not need a new main battery. But, don't be surprised if the main battery gives out in short time. The Aux Battery has a history of sucking the life out of the main battery.

Hey Marshall, you will not regret going with the Genesis setup. I installed their Gen2 Dual Battery system on my brand new 2020 JLUR two months after picking it up and have had zero issues. In fact I just purchased their Gen3 Power Hub upgrade because the new features are well worth it...

Perhaps you should have led with that.

No kidding. The Jeep gave him plenty of warning that the battery was dead, then he was shocked that a fault occurred.

The red light only indicates a security fault, it was just malfunctioning due to low voltage.
