If laying under the jeep looking up at the bottom of axle side and frame side track bar mounts. if you move the steering wheel back and forth I see the bushing move 1 mm both ways. i.e driver side to passenger side and vise versa
that should be normal right?
its the bushing compressing and not the bolt wiggling.

just a little back story, I got my jeep back from getting engine work done out of state. and took it to work like normal and got the horrible steering wheel shimmy between 50 and 55 if I did not slow down it would have gone into DW.
I had zero issues driving it to Moab 1200 miles where the engine failed and had to get it shipped back. so nothing was changed suspension wise just new camshafts, I went under and tightened every jam nut and bolts on front i.e control arms, track bar, drag link, tie rod, lug nuts.

I have Rock Krawler upper and lower arms, steer smart tie rod, draglink and brand new track bar, steer smart track bar brace, teraflex ball joints and fox ats steering stabilizer.
all these parts are 1 year old and 4k miles on them, except track bar is brand new to replace a Rock Krawler track bar.
also I checked the bolt holes they are not wollowed out. plus I installed larger 9/16 size to replace the 14mm stock bolts in trac bar.
I have internal balance beads in my 37 ko2s and I am getting them checked tomorrow at discount tire. but like I said it just drove 1200 miles no problem out to Moab from Mn.

I been messing with jeeps for 20 years but they were all XJ's but the JL is the same concept.
just looking for set of ideas I have not covered yet.

my next plan is to get the balance beads out and put weights on the rims, also I am going to check the alignment when it stops raining. still drives straight and smooth down the road, just hit a divot in the road around 50 - 55 and wheel starts going out of control slowly and escalates tell I slow down to 30 - 40

I can’t answer your question (seems like a bushing would have some give though?) maybe @Roky can weigh in.

Im really interested in hearing what happens after you have the balance beads swapped with weights though.

I’ve got a ā€˜21 with 37ā€ MIckey MTs and balance beads. I started getting a vibration around 65mph. So I swapped the tires with my wife’s 35ā€ KO2 and regular wheel weights. I ran along at 75-80 for a couple of 10 min stretches and it ran nice and smooth.

I get in hers expecting the 37ā€s to vibrate the same way they did on mine and they didn’t…. I was also able to run hers at 75-80 no problem.

My best guess is the beads vibrate more than weights AND something else is worn. I was guessing ball joints but I may have to inspect the trackbar a little closer.

Both our Jeeps have the same lift and aftermarket track bars along with the grade 8 - 9/16 bolts like you did. All other steering components are factory though.

I got rid of my balance beads. It would change balance all the time and never fully balance. Once they were balanced with weights, it drove smooth.

What new trackbar?

That looks like a good bit of movement, especially considering there’s some from both ends….. here’s mine, i didn’t hold my phone very still but just focus on bar and the bracket, and try not to get seasick…. ? ….. there’s no movement at all….That movement might be in tolerance for steersmarts, I don’t know…maybe contact them, show them the video……

Interesting, I replaced my rock krawler track bar with the steer smart yesterday cause the Rk had alot of movement and I wanted steer smart to match the tie rod and drag link.
The steer smart has less movement but still more then yours.
Now I need to figure out my next move haha

It’s possible the RK just needs to be rebuilt….

Right and I may for a spare. But I wanted the adjustable while in the jeep and also I was impressed with there rear track bar and steering setup so I got it to go with my current setup of steer smart steering, track bar mount, bolts and rear track bar.

Yeah, I get it….I just don’t have the same love for SS as I used to.. My drag link took a shit at 15k….

I realize shit wears out, but when it costs half as much as the whole bar to replace the end, that didn’t sit well, so I went a different direction……
