You made it this far through the thread and somehow missed the posts talking about it happening in JLs?

Let me attempt to clarify it for you: it happens in JLs.
Yeah I usually skim through the threads guy. Thankfully there's people like you who can point things out to me. I'm more of a numbers guy. I'd rather touch base on a bunch of different threads than spend my whole night reading a handful of them.

I feel like there's always going to be some inadequacies coming off the line. Not every Wrangler is going to be perfect in all ways. But in general it is something that they improved / fixed on the Wrangler JL's, compared to previous model years.

Maybe mixing up some flexing with fluttering

Okay so per @Ratbert calling me out for not reading through this completely. After watching that video, the shaking there. I've always thought that was pretty common with most vehicles. My wife's Subaru Forester does that any speed over 60 pretty much. My Wrangler does that, not at all times but occasionally while driving it highway speeds. Doesn't make noise, but I'm pretty sure that's common amongst most vehicles. I've never thought it was an issue. I've always thought it was pretty normal. Even my old 2001 Toyota Camry used to do that. I can't think of a single vehicle I've driven in that the hood doesn't move a little bit. Obviously if it's violently shaking you got an issue, but if it's just flexing a little bit, that's pretty normal.

There's so many aspects on the road between vibrations from the ground, different directional winds, you're going to get movement from the vehicle. The hood just happens to be at the head of it all. Even if it was happening like it does in the video constantly during highway speeds, I wouldn't really put anything past that. Maybe I just tend to look past the little things, but I don't see the issue here.

Ahhh, inadequacies. I almost completely forgot about that word…

“Janes attempts at fixing the inadequacies at the factory caused her a mental conundrum, which resulted in time disparities for the other employees on the hood latch line”

When it happens on mine (extremely rare event) it's pretty damn disturbing. I assumed that it was just "a Jeep thing", but apparently it's not.

I don't remember it happening on any other vehicle that I've owned. I've owned "a few."

I think we can/should agree that it's a thing... but it shouldn't be a thing. No matter what cowl or scoop or hood you have it shouldn't flutter/vibrate like that under normal driving conditions...

Living in FL and driving over the bay bridge in high winds mine does it. Mine also did it in all the vehicles I have owned.

I’ve never had a vehicle do this. Not my GT500 driven at 145mph, not the Ford Crown Vic police interceptors I’ve driven on high speed tracks/in pursuits, Ford Explorers the same, or even my shitbox XJ at highway speeds. My JL doesn’t do it either.

In cheaper vehicles? Sure. In $70k+ vehicles? No way. I've driven many vehicles at well over 120 and have never experienced it in those. Ditto for my RS-5 at 147. Ditto for driving a McLaren MP4-12C at somewhere north of that.

Hood flutter should not be a thing in a decently-built vehicle.

I agree it shouldn’t happen. I said it did. 64k trucks. Camaros. Doesn’t matter they did it across the bridge with high winds.

My wife and I have experienced hood flutter on multiple occasions in our 2021 JLUR 4xe. Here’s a post from December when I asked a fellow forum member about some locking latches in the hopes that it would keep my hood from flying off:

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...orite-inexpensive-4xe-mods.89125/post-2204539

I’ve also owned “a few” other vehicles in my 40 years of driving. Never had any other vehicle hood do this. Never owned a wrangler prior to JL, so I can’t compare to JK or others.

My initial thought was it is a ‘Jeep thing’, and the flutter is somehow caused by the external latches (since no other vehicle I’ve owned has had external latches). That’s what got me curious about replacing the latches - although I got too busy and never bought them!

Interesting to see that only some of us are blessed as flutternutters.

I just happened upon someone commenting about hood flutter after altering the side vents. I was going to install the new Morimoto side lights where the vent are, but now I'm not so sure I should. No sense in creating a problem.

What say you?
No
