Yes; the fuel door locks (not the cap).

The factory door locks lock and unlock the fuel door. The fuel door opens manually.

No

No; the piggyback interrupts the factory rear driver's door harness (taps into the door lock/unlock signal).
@THAW

Pardon this seemingly stupid question but I'll ask it anyway before I buy.

The aforementioned piggyback electrical harness that makes this product's fuel cap cover lock and unlock in tandem with the identical state of the door locks does not somehow need to connect with the tailgate door such that there is some exposed cable that elongates and shortens in its tautness as the tailgate door opens and closes, like (pardon the analogy) some rope that helps keep someone's busted tailgate door closed, right?

The aforementioned electrical harness remains in the driver's side rear tail light cavity, correct?

TIA

You guys do realize the silliness you are going through to lock your fuel door when the chances of said fuel door being opened for nefarious reasons is approximately .00001% ?

People do sillier things to their Jeeps all the time. While this isn’t a concern (or a product) for me, why should I care what they do or try to convince them otherwise. In the grand scheme of silly Jeep mods, this one is pretty cheap and easy to do/undo.

Mike, if one were to take the cost of someone pouring something really potentially damaging into the gas tank, multiplied by its likeliness, I believe that that cost (it's expected value,) as you say, to be demonstrable less than the costs of this:

https://www.quadratec.com/products/15006_07.htm , let alone its more expensive key matching "cousin" https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/locking-gas-cap-wrangler-jl-gladiator-jt

let alone this Lastsun device.

Logically, you are in the right.

So why would I consider buying it, living in a safe area with no enemies?

All I can say is the peace of mind of knowing, in light of the seeming majority of ICE vehicles with locked gas cap access, makes my Wrangler less of a target for such random violence and some how gives me when less thing to worry about in a climate where the current state of affairs (not to get political) already gives me cause to loose sleep.

That is takes my odds from your .00001% to .000000001%, yep. I would be buying peace of mind, even if it's a false sense of a fool's paradise.

Funny logic coming from a guy who urges people using math not to be an extended warranty. based on statistics. But such warranties are far more expensive, and with far more loopholes.

This is a one shot done deal from a guy sick of getting EVAP codes from his MOPAR matching key gas cap with the lousy and leaky O ring.

..haven't pulled the trigger yet. :)

Holy $hit, I won't even read this. Too much. Still love you though I just think you guys are nuts.

The tailgate is not involved. And, there's no "tautness".

The piggyback harness connects under the trim panel that covers the driver's seat belt and runs behind trim panels along the tub to the taillight cavity.

There is always, is the times we live in, the possibility of some asshole who pours sugar in a Wrangler gas tank, records it for Youtube, or Tiktok or who knows what social media platform, as some (so they believe in their stupidity) righteous social equity rebellion against "the man" who has what they don't, and other equally stupid assholes join in as it becomes "a thing."

It's not easy being me! ;)

To be fair @THAW actually said “ I'm going to attempt to use it (with a generic door lock actuator) to add DIY central locking to the gullwing window I added to my top.”
And if not he’s at least fabricating something.

The rest is just hand wringing and mental masturbation

Okay 1986, but with an awareness of 2025 social media presence trends where trends can spread even faster than an off the shoulder Flashdance sweatshirt. ;)

The number of people who have tried stupid and unsafe social media treads like swallowing cinnamon is only a small step from a segment of those idiots thinking that effecting damage to others and their property (rather than themselves) is cool.

Seeing media fearmongering working in real time is scary.
