I don't get it either, especially since it's a measly $25 hill! Like, what's the fascination about folks who use locking gas caps and why does it spur so much interest, negativity, and antagonism? Hey...we all spent lots of money on our Jeeps, so we can do whatever the hell we want with them. After all, that's what makes our Wrangler community so unique and great. I don't know why it matters so much to the naysayers, making what should have been a mundane 1-page thread into a 10-page debate. Like angry grills and all the other useless/overpriced crap that people hang on their Jeep, nobody's forcing anyone to use locking gas caps. I guess people just want to argue for argument's sake or perhaps impose their opinions on others to sate their insecurities. Whatever it is, I think it says a lot about people's character, and exactly why I don't mind responding to their criticisms. The more they talk, the more they reveal their insecurities. It's totally OK if you don't like locking gas caps...you do you and let everyone else configure and enjoy their vehicles as they wish. Move on... :headbang:

It's literally a DISCUSSION forum. That's the entire point. Not one person has told you YOU can't run one. In fact most of us have repeatedly said to do whatever makes you happy. Nobody is dying on a hill, or trying to shut down those that disagree with them... until now. I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings that people disagree with you or find holes in the logic behind feeling the need to run one. Nobody is pouring things in my tank without one on it. Your examples of things like acetone, I'd rather someone dump it in the tank than on the paint. Odds are there wouldn't be enough in there to do anything more than clean the fuel injectors vs destroying the paint. And even if they did pour enough in there to destroy the engine that's what insurance is for. Doing a few grand in damage to my paint wouldn't be enough for me to file a claim so the engine replacement would cost me less... and I'd get a new engine.

No hurt feelings at all....takes a lot more than that. And while I agree that this IS a discussion forum, there's a big difference between discussion and useless debate aimed at imposing one's opinions over those who are just trying to do their own thing. I can understand a few posts here and there, but sweet Jesus...the naysayers just can't let it go, can they? Even the angry grill haters can accept it and move on with their lives. Frankly, I'm just fascinated at how this such a hot-button issue, especially when there are so many other more important aspects of our vehicles and community.

Anyway, I do hear what you're saying about cleaning fuel injectors, replacing engines, and submitting an insurance claim, but that's a lot of hassle and down time IMO. Just me, but I'd rather install a $25 cap and avoid all that. But hey...I'm not here to judge. You do your own thing and enjoy your Jeep however you like.

Until the well planned acetone wielding vandals get thwarted by your gas cap and just dump it on the Jeep...and light it on fire instead? Or any number of other much more common vandalism than dumping stuff in the tank? It's an illusion of security at best, but you do you.

Having dealt with folks that commit violent crimes for a good part of my working life I can tell you the number that weigh the long term consequences of their actions enough to think about $1000 theft limits, or three strikes laws, etc are approaching 0%. Most aren’t thinking more than a few moments ahead of whatever they’re currently doing. For the most part, deterrence and rehabilitation are something we like to talk about to make ourselves feel better.

I don't get why people keep arguing in favor of locking gas caps in a thread about internally latching fuel doors... :headbang:

In a world with six door Wranglers and angry grills, this is the hill folks want to die on? Locking gas caps?
At least when I die my fuel will be easily accessible 😂. To bad it will be contaminated by ruffians.

If you go back and read the posts, you'll see this was offered to OP as an alternative to achieve similar/better results with less cost, work, and modification.
