Every day when I go under this specific bridge (in either direction), the dash turns red, Brake! flashes and it beeps. Today however, the Jeep locked up the brakes for me. Almost got hit as a result, wasn't that thrilled with the experience, and the guy behind me had some choice gestures to share (which I don't blame him at all).

Exactly why I hate and won't tolerate the Nanny "safety" gear the auto manufacturers try to convince me I need.

No, I don't. Although I have no doubt this stuff carries a high profit margin. ;)

Sensors are placed in front of the review mirror. Check that area of the windshield for dirt or damage. Was the windshield ever replaced?
It's the original windshield and there doesn't seem to be anything interfering with those upper sensors. It has to be something with that bridge. It's only misbehaved going under this one specific bridge.

At least it should be easy for the dealership to replicate it.

I've had zero issues two years in.
It works best on light traffic highways and local roads without many bends.

When I had my '19 Sahara I had the alert go off and the Jeep braked when there literally was nothing and no one else on the road with me. That's when I set the system to alert only. I got maybe a handful of those false alerts in the 3+ years I owned it. So far, my '23 Willys has had no false positives (knock on wood), but it's still set to alert only.

anyone on a bike? I had my Ram 1500, same exact system, hit the brakes for someone riding a bike same direction right side in the sidewalk but close to road. I figured tha radar system saw the spokes rotating as a mix of approaching or coming at the truck to decide to hit the brakes.

Yea, that. You can take it to the dealer, show them that video, maybe insist they try it out themselves. It sounds like your sensor is either defective or needs to be adjusted.

I had a similar issue with a similar type of bridge - there's an intersection on the way to my office where I make a left turn. I always thought it was the traffic light control box on the corner. Now I'm thinking it might be the bridge. Good to know! I can bring it up next time I go there (I want my headlights re-aimed anyway).

I have found that system useful before though. One time someone was slowing down and signaling to pull into a parking lot, and then they just straight up slammed their brakes in front of me. I was already on my brakes, but had the jeep not slammed them the rest of the way for me, I'm not entirely sure I would've made that stop in time lol.

I think that in alert-only mode it might still prime the brakes and get you to a stop faster. But I like large following distances and try to focus on driving, so I haven't exactly had many opportunities to test it... fingers crossed I don't need to lol.

Might have figured out how to post a video of this nonsense.

Maybe the forward looking camera/radar needs to be calibrated. Seems like it is aimed too high.

This happens to me every so often as well in some tunnels, so I adjusted the settings to alert only and less distance. According to the NYC ***holes who cut in front of me permanently in slow-moving traffic, I tend to drive with “excessive” (aka safe) distance anyway.

But will ask the windshield shop adjust the sensors to the spec of an XR to account for my lift whenever the glass breaks!

there got to be a lot of radar scattering happening around this area. is the system radar only or uses visual information as well?

Is it always in the exact same spot? Cameras work on reflections and the paint on the floor along with the sunlight reflecting going from shaded area causing the sensors and light to bounce back. does it do the same thing at night? If not it’s the paint and light reflections. it’ll do it too when sun is just right and behind another truck with chrome bumper
