Every day when I go under this specific bridge (in either direction), the dash turns red, Brake! flashes and it beeps. Today however, the Jeep locked up the brakes for me. Almost got hit as a result, wasn't that thrilled with the experience, and the guy behind me had some choice gestures to share (which I don't blame him at all).

Does anyone know what the Jeep uses to make the decision that you are about to hit something? And does anyone see anything about this particular bridge that would set it off? The system does work, it has beeped when I'm using the adaptive cruise control and people decide to change lanes for no reason. But it has never actually stopped the vehicle. And it beeps every time I go under this bridge.

Now I'm scared of it, can it just lock up the brakes going down the highway because it sees a bird it doesn't like or something?
Thanks!

Never had it do that for a bridge:whatsgoingon:
When it sometimes starts to beep at me in traffic I think it what it often uses to decide whether to start braking or not is if you start lifting your foot off the gas quickly.. Like it can tell that you're about to pound the brakes.

Have you tried adjusting the sensitivity settings in Uconnect?

My Jeep doesn't have whatever nanny is being discussed here, so I'll ask the obvious question: Is there an Off switch?
Yes! you can adjust it through UConnect, which I didn't know until just now. You can adjust sensitivity, turn it all the way off or just set it to beep without applying the brakes. I'm excited because this thing is dangerous!

That's good to read, Byron. ?

My wife's Honda has the brand's full suite of driver aids. While they are well-integrated and usually aren't too intrusive, there is the occasional blip that surprises me...doubly so since my Jeep has traction control and nothing else, which means I default to expecting the vehicle to just let me drive the damn thing.

I'll admit that I'm in full Luddite mode where such contrivances are concerned, but I also know that battle has been lost and that it's just a matter of degrees now.

Edit: And what would the OP's liability be here if the following driver had rear-ended him, because he wasn't reasonably expecting the de-facto brake check that occurred? Could the unintended activation of the related safety package be a mitigating circumstance?

Yeah that would scare me. I wouldn't want my Jeep suddenly stopping in traffic. In my opinion too much technology can be a bad thing.

My 2021 Rubicon decided to slam on the brakes at highway speed one day shortly after I bought it.
Zero traffic in sight in either direction, no birds or other animals and no reason whatsoever to apply the brakes.
It has been shutoff ever since.
That being said, I did receive a recall notice for something to do with the emergency braking system but have yet to take the Jeep in for repairs.

See, that's terrifying. That's exactly what I want it not to be able to do!

Do you have a lift? The sensors can be very... sensitive to angle.
No, it's stock other than replacing the 18" Sahara wheels with 17" take-offs (so much smoother). It added a little under an inch total height. What sensors are in use, the park sense sensors or whatever is in that box behind the rear view mirror? Or both and/or something else?

Sensors are placed in front of the review mirror. Check that area of the windshield for dirt or damage. Was the windshield ever replaced?

My 2024 beeps as I pass traffic parked along the narrow main street. Twice it has kicked my brakes while a car to my right was in a right turnane (not even in front of me). Both time almost got rear-ended and both times had some serious neck pains from the sudden jolt (not being funny but actually sore). I'll have to checkout the radio options because this is dangerous.
