-5 when I was walking the dog this morning (Northern Illinois). It's warmed up to 5 degrees right now, but will go back down to -9 degrees tonight. Very little wind though, so that's nice.

No heated seats in the Wrangler, but my wife's BMW has really great heated seats, which will be good because she's an ER doc and she'll be out in that -9 degree crap tonight.

Best,
-Tim

Been saying this for years... Wind chill is a construct invented by meteorologists to catch people's attention. And now they have the "Feels like" temp, which is just rebranded windchill. They talk about it much more than the actual temp, so much so many people think it is the real temp.

Interesting note, pointing to how stupid wind chill is. ~25 years ago they changed the scale to how wind chill is measured; they added 20 degrees to the scale. So what is now -20 windchill was -40 back in the 90s and prior.
I believe that calculation was updated in Nov 2001.

I remember snowmobiling in Wisconsin with a windchill of -67 degrees.

I don't know how ya'll survive out there in those temps. As I was watching the Eagles game on Sunday I was just so happy I don't live there anymore. Having to leave that game in the snow and drive up 95 would be my worst nightmare.

Temps here are hitting the low 70s this week. Now if we could only keep the hills from setting on fire....

And today that would be -47, but with global warming it's really like 15, which really isn't that bad.

Wind chill is such a stupid thing news agencies do nowadays. As if -16° wasn't already cold enough, they got to tell you the wind chill, which only affects you if you're going outside without protective gear on.

Meteorologist: "It's -16° outside, BUT it FEELS LIKE -40°!!!"

Guy1: "So how cold is it outside then?"

Meteorologist: "Well it's -16° outside, but if you were to go outside without protective gear on, and the wind were to blow in your direction, with moving airs heat wicking properties, it would feel like it's -40°."

Guy1: "My neighbor is fat as ****, weighing in well above 400 lb, if he goes outside is it going to feel like -40° with all that blubber on him?"

Meteorologist: "Well it differentiates between individuals. Person to person, wind chills will feel different depending on a number of factors."

Guy1: "Then why the fuck would you mention it?!?"

Meteorologist: "SENSATIONALISM! Stupid Americans won't watch our program if we don't produce ridiculous numbers! If the weather isn't giving mind bending, abnormal temperatures, people stop watching!"

Guy1:

Neither is your plumbing. I should have invested in PVC futures before this cold snap.
It hit -7F at home in CO, but we're in a houseboat on Puget Sound right now. Foolishly neglected to let the faucets drip last night and it all froze up. Water came back on about five minutes ago w/o any "fountains".

Free state of Montana.
I have been to Gardiner, Livingston, Billings, and spent an exciting 4 hours at the Bozeman tire store (that is a whole other story). Beautiful state!

-11 F Wednesday morn. And until we pass a new school levy, budget cuts make schoolkids who live within 2 miles of school don't get schoolbus service "cause they can walk it".

I hate to break it to them but that was my norm back in the mid '70s.

Yeah but winter storm warnings in SoCal with an overnight low of 36 degrees. Shorts and a hoodie weather.

With the rain forecast this weekend and the low 30s I'm thinking it's 100% possible to get snow at my house again which after last week would just be wild.
