I bought the cheapest one (WEIZE) I could find off Amazon (that others were selling the same for hundreds more) and still can’t destroy it. It carries fuel cans, coolers, fire wood and totes over some stupidly rough trails.

Because of your spare tire, you’ll also need to get a hitch extender else your tire will sit directly over your carrier rack.

And lastly, because all that metal is back there bouncing like a pogo stick making all kinds of annoying noises, you’ll want a couple hitch tighteners at the joints.

If you want a premium USA made solution check out X-Rack. All aluminum construction and lots of built in features and add on accessories like our wing carriers. We have an extended hitch tube for passing your spare tire and the tailgate can be opened while the rack is installed. https://www.xrack.us/product/rst-um-combo-cargo-carrier-rack/

I recommend a swing out hitch carrier like the Kuat pivot on all Jeeps so you can open the tail gate with the rack loaded and not have to unload.

if you need a top of the line bike rack and money to burn the 1up rack can convert to a cargo carrier. I love the bike rack not sure I would spend the money for the cargo carrier adaptor.

I picked up a cheap used 24x60 steel cargo tray (this is larger than most sold) from Craigslist for about $40, then got a piece of 2x2 square tubing and replaced the main bar that slides into the receiver. I measured and cut the tubing long enough so that the edge of the cargo tray is about 2" past the spare tire, meaning I can load tall stuff on it without interference. With it unloaded, the tire and rear door clear the tray and can be swung completely open.

I painted the new tube and replaced all of the old hardware with nice stainless carriage bolts and am only into the whole deal for about $100-110 and a few hours of time. I could have just used a hitch extension, but this minimizes the sloppiness of multiple joints/hitch pins and looks much nicer.

I’d say it largely depends on what you’re looking to haul. I’ve got an ancient (20+yr old) steel rack that’s works just fine. It’s heavy though. I wouldn’t turn down an aluminum one if someone offered to swap me. The biggest PITA is that it’s hard to get to the hitch pin, behind the rack and under the spare.

Lots of $$$ options out there but for occasional hauling I’d go with an aluminum one from somewhere like Harbor Freight.

I bought one of the black steel ones from Harbor Freight a few years back. Since it carried my 250# steel pyramid mooring anchor and its chains, I will trust it to do anything else I put on it. I would never put that much weight on it for any other reason though. The anchor sat right in the center, over the hitch tubing.

I've been meaning to post a pic of my setup that I described above and had to use it today to go pick up some stuff, so I snapped a couple of pics before putting it away when I got home. I have a giant, wheeled 77 gallon HDX storage tote that I toss on with a couple of bungees for reasonably weatherproof storage and containment of whatever I need to carry. Should have grabbed a pic with it still on there but forgot until I'd already put it away.
