Eh, only if the authorities go after you for it, which they won‘t in CA. I think you missed the bigger point here…
That the cops won't come after criminals but they will come after law abiding citizens? Oh no I definitely caught that point. If they weren't busy pulling people over for nothing, they might have time to catch criminals?

Have you ever driven without doors? The visibility is far better than with doors. Even if you trade the side view mirrors for that better visibility I'd argue it's a wash. You aren't going to side swipe that car in what would be your blind spot with your hip when you can see them and the road clearly out the door opening.
So while your turning your head to look left you hit the guy in front of you..ok..
Drove commercial where you could open the door with a switch while moving...all you get is road dust and noise.🤣

If I WAS a cop these would be my favorite arrests, the hey I KNOW MY RIGHTS type.
There are YouTube channels that focus on these types of interactions. Many times it's the cop that ends up losing their job or facing criminal repercussions for their actions.

I'm surprised @Tredsdert hasn't piped in here. I'm pretty sure he added the insanely brightest / most obnoxious turn signals possible just to see how far he could push things / the law. As far as I can tell they're technically legal, at least in his state.

If someone does something that against the law, the law deals with it hopefully irregardless if a badge is inviolved or not.
Many times it's just a guy geting arrested.....
People that drive with no respect of others safety are as*holes, drive with mirrors.

You obviously have very negative and tilted opinions of public servants and are intent on espousing them in a public forum. We get it. You hate most cops.

We’re talking about an officer in Lodi, WI. Small town.

And yes, officers do side gigs and overtime to make extra income. Because most of them aren’t raking in upper incomes. Consider it a perk for being sworn at, spit on, kicked in the face, and apparently, ridiculed in public forums.
Don't take it to heart , these are Jeep forums. lol

You take your eyes off the road to look in your mirrors too, not to mention you should look over your shoulder for a blind spot check before a lane change? Maybe don't follow so close to the guy in front of you or turn your head a little faster? I don't think opening a door while driving a semi offers much in the way of visibility like driving a Jeep without doors but you can infer they are the same if you want.

It's amusing to see how opinions change as time goes on. When I was in drivers education, it was taught that you side mirrors are there for awareness, but always turn your head to check that it is clear before changing lanes.

Now if you don't have side mirrors you're a menace to society, are going to crash and kill everyone involved 😂.

Even my wife, who will now be known as Karen on this forum, knows how to turn her head and look when she is driving without mirrors. Probably because she used to drive a car that had one side mirror from the factory.

If you don't like driving without mirrors then don't. But don't spread this ridiculous unsafe crap, and call people names, especially in places where it's not legally required.

Picture just for fun 😊.

Yeah and cops hate having to remind people to have some self awareness to those around you.
Is that what this cop was doing? Lying about the law, berating the OP for his mods, threatening him when questioned about the actual mirror requirements, and then "letting him go with a warning"? If the OP said he almost side swiped someone and the cop went off on him that's a different story. The cop pulled him over under false presences and then proceeded to look for anything he could actually write him up for. It's the sane reason when we are traveling with a group of Jeeps and 1 gets pulled over the rest head up the road to wait. I've seen them walk the line of vehicles looking for fix it tickets. Maybe their bitter that they are working on Saturday and we are going wheeling? Maybe they are just out trying to generate revenue? Doesn't matter as it's still an illegitimate traffic stop.

That's nice. I wouldn't ride a motorcycle without mirrors either.

I think you misunderstood the sentiment here. People who drive without mirrors aren't a menace to society, and it's doubtful that they'd kill everyone involved in a crash. Some of them just act like entitled little shits who'd rather be right than safer. If they think they can do their job better than law enforcement, then, they should. There are open positions all over the country. :D

Just because I can do your job doesn't mean I want to? In my opinion it takes a weird personality to go in to law enforcement. Especially the highway patrol side. Pretty much every interaction you have will be negative. It's either you're pulling people over or they just got in an accident. Nobody is ever having a good day. Odd career choice to want everyone you interact with to be having a terrible day? Sometimes you're actually catching people who are dangerous, but for the most part you're looking for minor infractions to generate revenue.

Take it easy.
The ignorance is huge, when turning your head your not looking forward.
Really the only time to turn your head is if you are STOPPED and getting ready to merge into traffic.
