Because we've never seen police make fatal errors while simultaneously operating outside the law be it malice or misinterpretation... At least the OP complied with the illegal traffic stop and didn't reach for his wallet too quickly. Yes, I think anyone who is tasked with enforcing the law should have a better than average understanding of it. An electrical inspector wouldn't last 2 weeks of he demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of the code, but we hand out badges and guns on a few weeks training and then give them qualified immunity on top of that. Yes we deserve better.Good thing it was just an oops with regard to a state vehicle equipment law. Just think, he could have crashed a plane or caused a fatal medication error!
