Curious OP, @JL ME do you think that cop would have pulled you over regardless even if you did have mirrors ? For one of the other BS infractions he was spewing out?

yes. He originally started in on me that I had to have doors on. He then got into the mirrors, soft top tint and taillights. It was a 45-minute lecture. i think he just doesn't like jeeps!

I have had fun in this thread but in all seriousness. You have a great cheap response to any future encounters and a viable solution for people who may worry about mirrors. Without spending several hundred dollars on the CMM mirror option or crappy Amazon mirrors which sucks and fall off while driving. Occasionally you come across asshole cops who want to prove their point and that's just part of life.

In most states your mirrors have to allow you to clearly see 200 ft. behind you. I highly doubt that bike mirror is going to cut it. Just do yourself a favor and go to AutoZone and get you a moped mirror that you can stick into the hole where the door was. I think they're like eight bucks. I have one in my garage that I ran anytime I had doors off for the last 3 years.

Anytime you start playing with safety features, it's always a good idea to see what the parameters of the law are.

I'll bite. We can disagree all day about the safety of side mirrors but I really think the safety aspect is down to drivers awareness. I can't tell you the number of times I have been run out of my lane while I am staring at the orange blindspot monitoring light on the other cars side mirrors. These features are helpful if used correctly but not required to safely operate a vehicle.

My sentiment about being a menace was hyperbole to react to some of the people extreme safety claims and calling people Karen's for driving without side mirrors. It's hard to indicate in text but that was my intent.

As for the legal aspect it varies state to state. As a person who, in a younger life, has been pulled over more times in a year than most people will be in their entire lives (I have the license suspension notice, hanging in my garage for being a "habitual violator of traffic laws") some of these people's reactions are insanity. When you are pulled over, you are polite, follow the officers instructions, take your warning or ticket, and continue you about you day. Court is where you argue and tell the officer he was wrong.

In my experience telling an officer he is wrong on the side of the road will results in 3 tickets in a single stop. Even though he was absolutely wrong about what he said, he didn't appreciate the sentiment and reacted in kind.

I don't know. I don't see them as trolls or Karens. I think they genuinely believe it's somehow unsafe. I just disagree. With my doors and windows removed I would argue I can see as well or better with the rear-view and a glance to one side or the other as I can buttoned up with side mirrors on.

Thanks, OP! Before this thread came along, I had no idea I was dangerous. I've never been accused of being dangerous before... and I think I like it.
