I was speaking in generalities, not necessarily about this specific event. Police are vital to a civilized society. Most interactions are not violations of rights and valid, of course. However, it only takes one bad cop to ruin many lives. since most agencies know who the problems are but refuse to clean house. My solution; make individual officers get their own insurance. This will render the bad officers uninsurable and thus, unemployable. The city/state(us) need not pay for bad cops again.
I'll play along...I'm a cop with my own insurance a call comes over the radio ....and I turn it off.

I haven't gotten a ticket in like 5 years.

Do I speed?

No, I would never! :CWL:

I have a really good habit of ringing out loud my Dixie Horn whenever I pass by Local Smokies or the Staties in my area! I'm pretty sure they all know my Jeep at this point. But I never give them a reason to pull me over, I'm not trying to be too obnoxious about it and blow out their eardrums, but when I'm a good distance away and I see them lights, you know the Dixie Horn will be ringing!

Laws are like those Oriental paper walls, you got to push on them until your hand is about to break through, and then you stop pushing. And then you go find another panel and you do the same. The goal isn't to break through the wall (break the law), you just want to test the boundaries of it!

The secret to breaking laws successfully (this is probably where the no politics header comes in) is visual confusion. If you look like you're not breaking the law most people won't look your way. It's when you look suspicious, or you pass by people doing 110, that you tend to get in trouble. If you're out driving 10 under in the slow lane, being a very polite driver, people tend to forget the hater pipe sticking out of your 3-year-old vehicle, especially if your Jeep has JK turn signal location, JK handles, and a JK grill, no one will know you're not driving a 25-year-old vehicle. They'll just think that's a cool vehicle, what a polite driver!

And then you can Dixie Horn the cops as you pass them in your illegally modified vehicle!

Speaking of which, does anyone know if they sell JK looking handles for the JL? It's my next step to turning my JL into a JK so I can start breaking federal laws!

The laughter of the cops when you finally piss them off enough and you spend the weekend in the clink and you're introduced to your cell mate as Joey.

Throw me in jail? For what? Freedom of speech at a legal decibel isn't illegal.

You know what, I take that back, throw me in jail! All these videos on YouTube of people having their rights violated and then getting decent payouts is very inspiring! :handsinair:

I find one flaw in your otherwise good comments….. How many are going to take a day off work to go to traffic court, or just write the check. I did once, after a 45 in a 25 speed trap ticket. The 25 mph sign was completely obscured by overgrown trees. When the Judge looked at my pics he asked “where’s the sign” I pointed out the pole going into the tree….. did everyone else ticketed in the speed trap (3-cars working it) get the charges dropped ?…. The next time I went down the street the trees had been trimmed.
I do almost every time but with good reason and not to argue or fight the ticket. I will fight a ticket if I have just cause which is rare. Typically I get speeding tickets and typically I was speeding.

Education moment: in Texas we have the option for differed adjudication on most moving violations. You go see the court clerk, request differed adjudication, pay a fine, pay court cost and have a probation period of a couple of months. If you don't get another ticket in that city or county during your probation period, it doesn't go on your record. You don't get insurance increases, it's like it never happened.

I do see your point that most people pay and move on. I have done that on some registration tickets, but I still pay in person as the court clerk usually gives you some decent options if you are in a jam or just because you were nice when payimg a fine.

I got a ticket once and Granbury, Texas. The cop told me that because I've had so many speeding tickets in like a 3-year period or something like that, if I got another speeding ticket I would lose my license and have to show up in court and shit. He had recommended I take a defensive driving course and go to the courthouse and basically tell the judge that I'm going to do better and with the defensive driving course the charges for that one would be dropped. It was a good recommendation, but the fine was only $75, and I lived about 2 hours away from Granbury, so I just went online and paid the fine and changed my driving habits.

Same difference in the end I guess!
And they will take! Do differed adjudication everytime. Mine got suspended for 6 months and I had to pay $300 in surcharges plus the fine. Back in those days that $300 nearly broke me.

No side mirrors required here in AZ as long as the rear view is not blocked. You should be looking over your shoulder anyway so, it's safe.
I live in AZ and use CMM mirrors. The catch that the cop can use is the rearview mirror is obstructed by the spare tire.

Side mirrors are only required if the view from the center mirror is obstructed. Mirrors must have a view of at least 200 feet to the rear of the vehicle.

It's a nice imaginary system you have there.
Still don't understand how an 8 inch mirror hurts your soul. 🤣

Thanks, OP! Before this thread came along, I had no idea I was dangerous. I've never been accused of being dangerous before... and I think I like it. :bandit:

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some "do not remove" tags to rip off some mattresses.

I'm absolutely thrilled and entertained by some of my favorite members trying their hardest to be rude to people who are just following the letter of the law.

Very likely why he only got a warning and not a ticket. This is one area where a lot of states have different rules and it pays to know the rules at least for the state you're registered in.

This law is probably not changed because a lot of classic cars only came with one mirror from the factory, either inside rear view or outside on one fender which was popular with Japanese imports. They liked putting them on the driver side front fender. Only in the 1980s did two outside mirrors really become standard across the industry. This law is very likely unchanged because of lobbying by classic car groups.
The only option on my 1992 Saturn was passenger side mirror!
