After much research, question asking and thinking I'm settling in on Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs 35x12.50R17 LT 119Q D2 tires on MT Canyon Pro Black wheels in 17x9", set of five for proper rotation and a trail spare. Thoughts on this please?
Very reasonable choice, but note that those wheels do stick out quite a bit. They are -12mm offset, so they're 2.25" further out than factory wheels (+44mm offset). Makes for more wear on components.

In a way they kind of remind me of a slot-mag. I love me a good slot-mag…

I'm not familiar with those wheels but I think you're going to love those tires, great choice my friend. 🫵

Thank you! :)

Thanks, hmmm re-checking the offset to backspacing calculator I used:
https://tireswheelsdirect.com/wheel-offset-and-backspace-calculator/

Stock Jeep wheels 7.5" wide, 44 offset = 5.98" backspace
MT Canyon Pros 9" wide, -12 offset = 4.53" backspace
therefore I get 5.98 - 4.53 = 1.45" more backspace? Maybe I did the math incorrect?

Dangit that seems like too much! What backspacing do y'all recommend? I've been looking at Method, Icon, Enkei, the wheels that @2nd392 has, etc. Trying to keep the wheel weight down but $400 per wheel or less preferably.

Saw these Icons on some Yourtuber dudes JL but with 38s and they look good
ICON Alloys Rebound, Satin Black, 17 x 8.5 / 5 x 5, -6mm Offset, 4.5" BS...those are going to stick way out too though.

Wheel recommendations please?

And I love me an RC scale crawler with slot mags!

That was a fun build and one I should have kept for sure lol.

Hey I just thought of this and you may have already been there, but have you checked out Custom Offsets website? I know on there you can plug in a specific vehicle/tire/wheel combination and see it on other people’s rides. It helped me out when I was trying to decide on wheels for my truck. May be worth a shot?

I know I sound like an AEV fanboi broken record but I have had AEV wheels on every jeep and ram I have owned...they have the correct backspace for scrub radius and no rubbing with either 35's or 37's.. for me just the right amount of poke...I don't like wheels that stick out too far but I know some do and we all have different tastes...AEV borahs can be used as bead lock wheels or without or with just protection rings so very versatile. easy to paint the rings if you want too. but again we all have different tastes..some think they are ugly.

EDIT: My home trail's the Rubicon, Fordyce is close too and been running them for many years. Also hope to do Dusy-Ershim, Moab and maybe some Colorado trails in the next couple years.
You should strongly look at 37x12.5s if you want to do Dusty. New rigs tend to have extra dingle berries that hang below the axles. Ran Dusty from Courtright for the first time in 10+years, its a whole different trail now.

22' JLUD here, Stock suspention & wheels.

I put on a set of falken wildpeak AT4w 35x11.5 on the stock willys rims, no major issues so far.….

Tires have been great in the snow, better on fuel milage, and significantly quieter...
Sounds nice, pictures? Had a chance to flex it and see if and where they rub?

….hard to beat the Mickey 255/85-17 on stock wheels..add some 1" BORA spacers which are high quality and the thinnest spacer you can use without trimming the stock lugs..properly aired down they are a great tire on and offroad.…
I know people will tell you the E rated 255/85-17 will ride rough but I have not found that to be the case nor have the people who actually are running it.
Any rubbage without the spacers?

slight rubbing here and there at full lock going over uneven surfaces. i was going to put on my shocks that came in and do some testing today but its currently -22 out and i learned the hard way that metal tools in sub 20s dosent feel good haha.

from what i can tell theyre perfectly useable daily driving, ill have to get some pictures for ya when i go out next. might do all that at the same time with my flex testing, ill make a full post about what i find

Realized I never fully updated, thanks for all the input! I bought MT BB ATs 255/85r17 installed on my stock Willys 17x8" wheels and we'll see, so far lots of road in rain and dry and little mild wet wheeling and they are very nice! I'll probably end up on 37x12.50x17s with Method 703s (17x8.5") eventually.
