Hey all,

The rear park sense literally started going crazy as if there were a ghost when I got out of work today.
No objects, no sidewalk, no human walking across….

The sensor beeping literally does not stop.

it was fine when I left home for work in the AM today.

The only difference between all these days and today is that I added a soft vinyl cover for the spare last night. Who knew that could create electrical gremlins LOL!!

I toggled the park sense on and off a couple of times. Also shut the Jeep off and on, when I had to stop by the gas station and another place on my way home. The off/on key cycle did not reset anything and the glitch still exists.

please offer your thoughts. Pics attached.

What do I do next?

Seems like it shouldn't make a difference but I would start with taking the tire cover off and see if the issue goes away. Do you have a taller/wider than stock tire or aftermarket tire carrier?

I will have to try that tomorrow.

Stock tire and wheel setup. The correct size tire cover with no slack or obstruction to the rear camera.

Can't think of what could have went wrong.

The sensors can be pretty sensitive. I had mine go haywire after a rotation with my aftermarket wheels and 33" tires. The fix was spinning the tire on the spare holder. Very strange, but it worked. The only possible explanation for yours is the cover, right?

That's right. The addition of the cover is the only thing that changed between the good and the glitch.
Very hard to believe though, but looking at what you said it could be a possibility.

Was there anything done with the locking camera beauty cover at all? Or just the spinning of the tire on the spare holder?

If your reason for the tire cover is sun protection, simply do five-tire rotations and basically accomplish the same thing. It's personal preference, but I like the exposed tire look better. That said, I have 35s plus a Teraflex relocation kit and my sensors still work fine. It's hard to imagine that a tire cover could throw more of a curve ball than my setup.

Yes. Protection from the sun and the elements.
Makes sense with the 5-tire rotation which is what I will be doing.

But your setup is a lot more mechanically different than base stock and there are no issues. There is nothing blocking the camera or the sensors on my Jeep, so it is hard to imagine.

I will report back shortly.

You all won’t believe this.

I took the tire cover off, secured the camera helmet back on, voila.
I set the Jeep in reverse and sat there for 10 seconds and the sensors didn’t beep.

I went to D, then back to R. No problems!

I can’t believe how finicky the system is.
I will try and put the cover on and off tomorrow to see if the issue comes back, or I’ll have to send the cover back unfortunately.

Just be careful, if the Jeep thinks you’re toying with it, it may threaten to kill the ESS battery.

If it gets out of hand, putting an Angry Grill on may beat it into submission.

Dealership can adjust the sensors. Had a similar issue and has to do with angle adjustment.

@MidwestJeeper mine does this at least once a week. Reverse sensors go nuts with nothing there. I have NO tire cover, stock Rubi.

I have isolated the issue to tight parking lots and possibly sun angle. Sometimes with a lower sun off the front, casting a big shadow of the back, I get the sensors going nuts. I don’t know how or why.

I had this happen when I put 37" tire on the back. It finally learned after two days of going crazy.

The camera is also part of the back up sensors.

Try rotating the tire valve into a different positionon the carrier. Then put cover on and see what happens. It sounds dumb but it works. Lol.
