Hi everyone,

Love love love my new fuel door housing.

I’ve noticed since I’ve installed it my range and mpg are dropping like crazy, and if I look at the housing from the top there is a tiny bit of space between the housing and the rear quarter panel.

I’m guessing that the housing should be absolutely flush against it?

Just trying to troubleshoot on my own before I pay my mechanic to take a peek and fix.

No smell of ⛽ and the fuel cap fits nice and snug when it clicks as it is supposed too.

I also have not noticed any leaks on the driveway or parking lots, and no noises or fuel smells when I drive.

Step back and avoid hiring a mechanic to (trouble shoot) a problem that has zero/zip/nada to do with your (new fuel door housing). You've identifyed no leaks, smells, etc.
Why your milage has maybe dropped, it is NOT related to your installation of a new fuel door based upon what you have disclosed so far.

any suggestions on what that might be? Could the sensor need to recalibrate? Could it be something else?

Well I haven’t had to fill the tank yet since having the new housing….but it will need to be done this weekend so I guess I could see?

I wonder if when I installed it I did something to the filler neck or the float or resister.

Or everything just needs “reset” to get used to my driving habits again. It’s my daily but I haven’t driven it much this week.

When I’m at a stoplight or stop sign, my range goes back up significantly so it’s just when I’m driving that it drops very quickly, even at just a few MPH

Another thing to check would be the O2 sensor. If it needs replacing that little thing can affect mileage.

This is the same for every single one of our JL's. It has nothing to do with the JL or even Jeep for that matter. That thing is constantly trying to average itself. Look at it while you're traveling up and down hills. I wouldn't trust it for your average MPG either, but instead I use the actual amount of gallons I put back in at the pump. It's a fun meter to watch but I doubt it's as accurate as it says it is. The day you were checking it before you made this post, was it more windy than usual?

nope…no wind, and windows were up.

in the 1.5 years I’ve had her, her range has never fluctuated this much, which makes me think perhaps there is a kink in the vent line or maybe the sensor got knocked somehow.

I’m bringing my jeep in this morning to have my mechanic look at it due to the lovely Wobble I have so I can have him take a peek at the fuel door housing and make sure it’s not pinching anything.

Your Jeep is no longer the amazingly aerodynamic machine that it was stock.
Oh wait, that's a thing with our boxes on wheels? haha
