Are you guys actually getting a message or just getting locked out of using electric mode? I havent had FORM yet. But if the temp is below freezing, its hit or miss if the ICE kicks on right away.
There's a message that comes up right after you start up for a couple seconds. No chime. If you scroll to the message center in the gauge cluster display it'll be shown there as well if you missed the first pop-up.

Following this thread. Having the same issues. Added 4 gallons of gas, FORM went away, then came back. Tried the "idling to raise oil temp and then driving" solution too. FORM went away and came back. Sometimes it goes into FORM on startup, other times the Jeep starts in electric and then switches to FORM the first time the ICE starts up. Frustrating. As someone else mentioned, it actually drives pretty well in FORM mode and gradually uses the battery to enhance power and efficiency, but I do miss the option of electric mode, and I'm using a lot more gas than I need to.

I think it's a great idea that jeep is trying to go electric , but , still don't think they should be selling them in Northern climates . Don't see how you are saving energy having to idle them for extended periods to heat the oil up enough to burn the gas out of it . Gas in the oil is never good if you want your engine to stand the test of time .

I now have 10,880kms and have been locked out of electric mode for the last 2 weeks due to either FORM or CHOC, it changes..Here in Victoria our daytime highs have been over +5c and the Jeep is garaged at +12c and plugged in. So ambient temperature is not the case here.
Dealership changed oil 2 weeks ago(coincidentally when electric mode unavailability started) They did NOT do any updates at that time, its scheduled in soon for those.
I’m convinced short trips (20 mins or less + low oil temperatures) are a certainly a factor in part of the issue, as well as software code for when ICE should run or not.
Jeep really needs to address this issue ASAP.

I had this happen to me and it was based on a lengthy cold snap with temps below freezing. I don’t garage my jeep. It went away after the temp got past 40 degrees. I have a 30 min commute each way. Never got the oil temp past 186 degrees.

FORM hasn't made a lot of sense to me in the midwest. Our first cold snap with temps down to almost 0*F, no FORM. The most recent snap, almost always in FORM. Similar to others, put in some gas, FORM turned off but soon came back. Detached the negative battery terminal also worked, but it again soon came back. I have a garage, keeping it in there and plugged in doesn't seem to make a difference. Randomly, FORM has turned off. For example, yesterday was 20*F and didn't plug in, ran a quick errand and FORM was gone. I'm quite sure it's not related, but FORM didn't start until I started using 93 octane premium, had only used regular up to that point. LIkely a coincidence.
This has been the one frustrating experience with the 4xe, otherwise love her.
Browsing the manual, I noticed this warning. For those who are doing a lot of idling to get out of FORM, be careful.

Yes, absolutely. Cold starts without heating up the oil would exacerbate an oil dilution issues, so you would expect it to be a factor.

The manual also says it is a factor.

Got my 4XE from the factory on Weds last week, it was in the 30s. I had two days of full electric and Friday was in the teens (f) and its been in FORM since, no matter the temp. I have 47 miles on it now. I am going to try and burn all the fuel in this tank and then refill it fully in the hopes it will kick back to electric. Very weird, I also noticed that my oil percentage is at 95% already, it was at 96% when it was delivered to me with 17 miles on it. I hope its not leaking oil into the engine or something too fast. I have an apt with my dealer on the 23rd for a radio issue but will bring up the FORM issue then if its still stuck in it.

Our jeep has been in the shop for this issue. Today is day 41 with no end in sight. Our dealership is lost and claims STAR tech support is working on a resolution.

First off, thanks to Avocado for the comprehensive breakdown.

It’s clear that living in a colder climate is making this more difficult for some of us, but I’m not dealing with the extreme prairie cold and it’s still happening…

I’m noticing that a lot of the solutions here are just treating symptoms, not the root issue.

Yes, FORM serves an important function (though other automakers have a minimum run-time for their PHEV ICE engines in place of FCA’s FORM - Audi’s is 5-10 minutes of ICE runtime depending on outside temperature, and you cannot return to pure electric mode until that passes), but in the 2 weeks my jeep was in the shop, FCA engineers admitted it shouldn’t be stuck in FORM the way we’re experiencing it. Period.

Their “solutions” were to either run the engine temp up over 180 for 20-30 minutes or drive in E-Save for 2 hours consecutively, without interruption. Running the engine temp up is the riskier of the two options, and my response was fine, if that’s your solution, then you do it, and if anything goes wrong, it’s on you the service team. The second solution was less risky but a bigger chunk of my time. Turned out to solve the trick: run for 2 consecutive hours in E-Save uninterrupted.

The engineers still conceded that A) this should not be happening and B) they have no idea why it’s getting stuck.”

I think the more we raise the issue, the more likely FCA will work to solve the concern, not just put a bandaid on it. I freaking love my 4xe and I plan on keeping this sucker for a long time, and I don’t want to have to plan around this issue every so often for the foreseeable future ?

Drive the piss out of it and get the oil over 100C. Or you can always put the diesel front end cover, that makes it much easier to get the temps up.
