I have a ’23 4xe and have had it since mid-September. I only have about 2000 miles on it as I don‘t travel very far on a daily basis. I live in Pittsburgh so the weather fluctuates often. When it was warm outside my Jeep would run off the battery daily, almost fully with the occasional “electric mode unavailable, oil and fuel refresh in progress” message popping up. Lately it seems like that message pops up every time I drive, even if I just filled up the gas tank. Oil is at about 55%. Anyone else experience something similar?

This will take time when you drive short distances only and normally drive on electric only. This is a Hybrid, not an EV, the gas engine needs to be used more then EV mode. The engine will be forced to run as to prevent normal concerns with engines sitting. The best thinf to do is go light on need gas. Fill up, and drive for like 2 hours straight, thats the best fix that I've found at a dealer.

The big take away is its NOT an EV, its a HYBRID. I know you may have purchased under a different assumption but that is just the facts here. With that, in the winter, especially in the NE, when the ambient temp never gets above 45-50 for weeks, dont be surprised if the EV mode never kicks on. Cold is very hard on EV systems, and with the tiny 4xE battery, it so depleted it tends to just save it and use it only as a gas assist system.

If you are using the HVAC and it's cold out you may get that message, this happened to me a couple of times already, there are ways to balance the HVAC and drive in electric, however once I'm using the HVAC it's on high, the defroster is going etc, so I don't care, I'm running on gas, because the battery deplete fairly quickly with that HVAC on.

Note the temp on the dash when this happened, -7c shown is like your 20f.

I think once you are getting around that 25f -20f and the HVAC is going, you might probably see that message.

For me it came on, the next day warmed up, the message didn't come on again.

Fyi there is going to be a recall for the oil refresh. My Jeep started this week with no electric. I called my dealer and they saw a recall yesterday but it was gone later. So it's not you, it's the Jeep.

That's a bit ... simplified. There are legitimate reasons for FORM, to keep the engine from killing itself by diluting the oil with gas when you don't run the engine enough. When operating properly, FORM should last for a relatively short period and address the issue. There are some people who have longterm FORM issues, and there's likely going to be a software update to address that.

Thanks for posting this! I am having the same issue but was told it was a malfunctioning coolant sensor. I've got a request in with Jeep Cares because none of it makes sense. It was "fixed" but broke again and now the dealer is telling me to drive 25 miles at 205 degree engine temp and add 4 gallons of gas. Seems very odd

Not odd at all. When my 2024 Willy went into FORM I went on a nice 30 mile drive in the county and FORM went away. I was mostly driving on electric for weeks ahead of this, so it makes sense that I needed to run the engine more.

Actual statement from Jeep:
How can I get Electric mode back?

The use case which leads to this level of dilution can vary, but the path to resolution is always the same:

· Start the engine and allow engine oil to reach normal operating temperature. 169°F (76°C) is the minimum, but normal operating temperature is above 194°F (90°C). Elevated speed and load will warm the engine oil most quickly.

· Continue running the engine until FORM is no longer shown in the Message Center of the instrument cluster. Depending on the dilution level, oil temperature and outside temp, this can take from 20 minutes to 2.5 hours.

· In case the above steps are not possible, change the engine oil and reset the oil life indicator.

· Never reset the oil life indicator without changing the engine oil.

It's possible that some use cases lead to a lot of dilution and not enough evaporation to compensate. In this case FORM will return as long as the weather remains cold. We have high confidence that these frustrations will be resolved when the weather becomes warmer.
I own a 2021. I’ve never been able clear it consistently for any of the past three winters. But, YMMV.

Don't let anyone tell you this is normal. I've never heard of FORM until I got a Jeep. And this is NOT a new issue. There is a class action lawsuit from 2021 for 21' Jeeps. It's still pending in the courts. So this has been around since the 4xe's came out and probably will exist until Stalantis gets some serious heat from their customers... that is, they start buying Broncos instead of Jeeps.

Mine went into FORM November 15th and the temps were still in the mid 50's. Dealer got it out of FORM after changing the oil and running for 2 hours. Two weeks later, FORM is back.

Gasoline has a shelf life of 3 to 6 months. No reason why this should result in FORM after a couple weeks.
