I go by oil color more than by miles....which means mine gets changed about every 3K miles

So does mine. But now that I am retired, we put less than 3000 miles a year on it. So I now change it once a year.I go by oil color more than by miles....which means mine gets changed about every 3K miles
The OP doesn't have a Pentastar; they have a 4Xe which comes with the 2.0L turbo. Their questioning is regarding the OIC being more complicated due to the hybrid nature so "miles on the odometer" doesn't equate to "miles on the engine".For a happy Pentastar change it every 5,000 miles with 5 quarts of 5W-30 full synthetic and a new filter
@NWJeepr suggestion is solid. You'll want to change the oil according to the owners manual recommendation; which is to follow the the oil change indicator. That is usually going to work out to something around the 5000 - 10000 miles or once-per-year whichever comes first for a typical ICE. With a 4xe, especially if your normal use is short range and thus primarily on EV, you will almost certainly be in the "once-per-year" camp; but as long as you follow the oil change indicator you'll be fine (at least until you're beyond the powertrain warranty; but as the link that @CrackedPatella provided there are reasons it may still indicate an oil change sooner than 1 year). Now that’s a response I understand.
It was right at the 1 yr mark so… that makes sense as well as your comprehensive answer about combustion, detergents, temp etc !
thanks
You've probably read this before, but color isn't a great indicator of oil health for modern oils. The additives darken but that doesn't mean the oil isn't still performing or that service life is severely degraded. Time/hours/mileage are better meters for maintenance intervals than mileage, although with just 3k between changes, you probably have healthy oil regardless. Overservicing, maybe.I go by oil color more than by miles....which means mine gets changed about every 3K miles
That's true. I have been changing my own oil for long enough that by the color and smell I know when it is time for a change....which for my Wranglers is around the 3-4K mile mark. I have done the same thing on my JK with the 3.8L that everyone rips on and currently have 250,000 miles on the original engine, not leaking or burning a drop. You've probably read this before, but color isn't a great indicator of oil health for modern oils. Modern diesel oil turns black soon after it's changed as soot becomes suspended in it again. Wouldn't want to be changing diesel oil by color, that would be spendy!
Never, under any circumstances, go 10000 engine miles on an oil change.Had our first 4xe about 18 months before it wanted an oil change, I believe Jeep's recommendation is every 10,000 miles, so it was almost right on. Have 2100 miles on a new Sahara 4xe (we drive it an average of 500 miles per month) so I expect to see the same. New Jeep did switch to FORM for a short time at 1100 miles. I also have a RAV4 Prime that doesn't seem to care about how long oil or gas sits, I think Toyota says if it runs 300 miles per year on ICE it's happy.
