I'm extremely frustrated with my 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe. I bought it specifically to use the electric mode, but I’ve barely been able to. I currently have 20,000 miles on it, yet I’ve only been able to drive about 700 miles in electric mode.

Every time I take it to the dealer, it’s a long wait for an appointment, and even after multiple visits—including for recalls—the issue keeps happening in both cold and warm weather. I also reached out to Jeep customer service, but they weren’t helpful.

I even considered trading it in, but I would take a huge loss on the trade. Does anyone know how to fix this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have had my 2024 for about a 1 1/2 years and it has only gone in to Form once I went and got gas and while driving on the freeway it went away. I do hope they can find your issue and fix it

700mi out of 20,000?! That's not a very good ratio. When in FORM mode does it at least use some electricity and run more like a hybrid? If so what are your mpgs? Everytime I entertain the idea of a 4xe I read posts like these which talk me right back out of it! Lol

You. Bought. A. Hybrid. If you were expecting a BEV you bought the wrong vehicle.

Anyway, I assume it's cold as fuck in Kansas. It's going to be stuck in FORM unless you get it on the highway, lock it into 4th gear, and drive the piss out of it for 15 miles to get the oil temp over 210 for a period of time. If you aren't forcing the engine to get hot it'll never get hot enough to exit FORM in cold weather once its begun. You're being limited by this oil temp vs time threshold and honestly they should mention it in the manual somewhere.

Go give it a whirl and it'll exit FORM. Dealers will not do this for you as it's normal vehicle operation, and they won't be paid to do it. You can also reset the oil monitor as an alternative, it usually works.

I just got mine in December and when we had some "warmer" days, it was fine. But now with the lousy frigid days, it starts out all electric out of the garage and then stops after a few miles. And, I get the good ole FORM frequently too. When the temps warm up, it should get better.

As far as the dealer goes, I have the same issue and it seems to be a common theme. I have had it in two times by appointment, and both times they did not even start working on it the first day. Not sure why they even take appointments!

You would lose on trading it. But you will lose when ever you trade it. Maybe worth more now than later. I traded out of mine. But the 4xe works best as a hybrid. Not ment to be totally electric

Does this mean frequent short drives do not accumulate to reset FORM? You have to drive for ~20 minutes in one shot?

It's purely oil temperature over a set time. If you take short drives it will most likely never exit FORM until the ambient temp warms up significantly.

Driving it in a low gear on the highway will force the RPM up. This will allow the engine oil to heat quickly and exit FORM easily.

Thanks! That makes sense, I was watching my oil temp yesterday, stayed at around 170. I will take it on the highway today and see.

Number of ICE starts when engine not fully warmed up is what gets you into FORM. That relative to the amount of sustained time above ~170F. You have to manage your vehicle based upon this knowledge in the winter. Quite frankly I drive in manual mode plenty in the winter to prevent my ICE from shutting off once it has come on. No problem with FORM anymore. It has a self destructive mentality when just left in hybrid mode to fend for itself...
