Next time you hear it drop your driver and passenger sun visor - I swear I had a rattle in my soundbar and it ended up being a visor rattle I just extended the little rubber stops that are suppose to prevent a rattle.
This is very interesting!

Yes, the Velcro does seem to have worked. The trick is to make sure that it's applied to the leading outside edge of the metal mount for the panel. I also think that the panel's plastic locating pin that inserts into this mount contributes to the noise by rubbing against the plastic coated mounting hole. I'm going to wrap a small piece of cloth tape around the locating pin to eliminate any chance of this being a factor.
I can second (possibly third) that this approach helps out. I also adhered the same velcro in the "U" slot around the pin just in case that was also the culprit. I do hear another sound now (possibly the passenger side, which I did not do, or something further back) -- next challenge.

Would like to mention that I'm either bad at following directions or the pictures were difficult to process with such close-up context. I eventually got it, but here's another photo showing the same thing with a bit more context (man, I need to cut my fingernails!).

I also have the freedom panel ticking noise coming from the area above the driver side rear outside locking clamp. I isolated it to that area because I can replicate the ticking I hear when driving over bumps, etc. by slamming the driver door while sitting in my Jeep with the motor off and in my garage. No pressing on any part of the panel eliminates the noise. So, I took the panel off and slammed the door and the tick is gone when I slam the door. So I go to the freedom panel now laying on a bed inside my house in total silence and hit the corner of it with my fist and hear the ticking noise. Thus it’s in the panel itself. Any ideas where to look or what to tighten, loosen, take apart or pad, etc? Nothing is moving around inside of it when I shake the whole panel, it takes a sudden jolt to replicate the tick/rattle. Help, please!

I had some ticking from the locks when only running the two small top pieces. Havent fixed it yet but my noise is def coming from the lock handles themselves rattling when not bound/engaged.

Amazing that a 2 dollar pack of velcro saved a life. The rattling was so bad I was about to drive this bitch off a cliff and just end it all... LOL.. I added Velcro and zero rattles now. Here is where I added the velcro, I did it on both the driver and passenger side.

I’m having this same issue. I have tried everything. Any new ideas? Is there a spray that is safe for the fiberglass material if it gets on the hardtop? I want to access the bolts that attach the hard top to the top, near the freedom panels. I can’t take the top off since I have a shelf attached the the back cargo area bolts. Any help would be appreciated.

Reviving an old thread, came here because the last two weeks I have also wanted to drive my JL into the river and let it take my 2A collection with it. I have FINALLY isolated the sound. It is the passenger side freedom panel, above the passenger head rest. I checked the Torx bolts and they are tight. I can see and hear the panel going up and down. Temps where I live now are 50ish mornings and 80ish days, and it is garage stored during the night and sits outside during work.

Every time I wash it, I apply 303 to the seals, they are nice and squishy. The panel has play. I will try the Velcro idea in those places and see if the problem resolves. On my JK I had rattles from the freedom panels and it was the centering pins on the roll bar. I took cut pieces of microfiber towel and applied like a condom. No more rattles.
