Nah, I don’t agree. I’ve been using a Mac to update the Tazer for three years. It’s works fine. Unmarry, first, for cheap insurance. Worst case the flash fails and you can do it, again.
@OldGuyNewJeep

Or you brick your Tazer JL Mini after your Tazer JL warranty runs out.... that is worst case scenario, rare as it may be.. as your Tazer JL Mini will have to be replaced on your dime.

Many people jwalk and never ever get hit... 8-) others get hit...

Easily un-bricked, and wouldn’t cost anything. So long as Mac is supported, no reason to not use it. Just follow the instructions (which clearly say to unmarry) and no worries.

I’ve been a software engineer for 30+ years and understand how these things work. No way I’m borrowing a Windows machine to do a firmware update, but to each his own.

Where do the instructions say to unmarry for Mac OS? I haven't seen mention of it in the Tazer or ZPU user guide.

It’s been mentioned by Joe from Z-Automotive in several threads in this forum.

@FiveBoro

Joe has posted here and on Facebook many many many times over the last 3 yrs. that with the Mac / Mac utility, there can be issues and thus the importance for the unmarry, when using a Mac. Joe, actually in the past has said best bet is to unmarry the Tazer JL before firmware update with either Mac or PC..... He has said with MAC it is especially important to unmarry....

YES, recently Joe has posted he/his guys have been working to get the Mac utility up to speed so to speak and it is far better then say 3 years ago, but he still tenders the caveat about the Mac utility...

See pic below of one of many posts by Joe.

I just posted this in another Tazer related thread, but thought it may be helpful here to. For those new to or having issues using their Tazer, below is a great video detailing how to use the Tazer and scroll through it’s menus, etc.

Just wanted to add to the list, double mute tap doesn’t work for me or the brake hold for some reason. Everything else seems to be working fine though. Still love the tool and look forward to a fix in the future. I did like the double tap mute feature for the backup camera.

Wanted to add, ive been using a Mac for all my updates. Haven’t had any issues minus the double tap and brake hold not working. Could that be related to the Mac? My sons computer is a windows machine.....I guess I could try that to see if that’ll fix my issues.

No, your issues are not related to Mac. I would unmarry, reflash, and reprogram. Pay very careful attention to the sleep cycles.

Reflashed the 11.2.7 update with my old Windows 8 laptop. Not sure if the Windows over Mac made a difference but TC off is now being remembered. Still don't have the double tap Mute for backup cam tho.

What size radio/screen do you have? Just curious as it seems the 8.4” works but the others do not. Mine is a 7” so just curious who all are effected.

Double tap mute works fine for me with an 8.4” radio.

I have the 7" screen as well.
So it seems the double mute will only work with the 8.4” with the new update. It worked with an older update, I’ve thought about going back to an older update to get this feature back but I also like the garage feature. Guess I’ll have to choose which one I like more.

Reach out to Joe at Z-Auto and see if this is a bug or not. If it is, I'm sure it will be fixed quickly.

I have. He said he would look into it but that was a month ago. He seems pretty busy but I’m sure at some point he’ll take a look at it. Not a huge deal but would be nice.
