Hello all, got a 24 rubicon 4xe on 38x13.5r17 trail grapplers with kmc beadlocks I have 8 adjustable alpine control arms, metalcloak front and rear trackbars without the brackets, 3.5 teraflex 4xe specific springs and fox 2.5 dsc elite shocks around. After installation of the springs, right side springs both front and rear are bowed to the rear. Have played around with different measurements on the control arms. Used digital angle finders to bring the front caster to 7 degrees at home, and also have 2 degrees of pinion to differential at the rear.. I have weird shimmy that comes and goes on the freeway. Wanted to check in to see if the alignment numbers are good especially the toe, which i havent touched since the day i got it.

Try setting the toe at 1/16th toe in… I think the degrees is 0.11 ish, and total toe should be 0.22. I’d set tire pressure to 29-30 warm… Start there and see how she feels….also if you don’t have the FAD, you’ll want to dial your caster to around 5 degrees to start and adjust from there. Without the FAD the front driveshaft is spinning in 2WD and will cause a vibration with too much caster (pinion angle) .

thank you for the response, tires at 29 warm. Do you know exact measurements for the toe from center of tires on a measuring tape?.. I had set it perfect 6 degrees of caster and the steering wheel would not return to center and the drive was more sketchy. I dont think there is a a fad on my 2024 rubicon it also has cv ends.. I got vibrations at around 7.5 degree caster and above. Do you believe the 4H auto (kind of like awd, or open throttle) that i usually drive will mess up the driveshaft at 7 degrees?

Unfortunately you’ve got to get down in the 4.6-5.0 range on caster to get the vibrations to a minimum on the 24s. Sucks but it is what it is with the FAD.

Also, 1/16” is .1438 per side, if you’re aiming for 1/16 toe in per side you’re looking at just under .3 total toe.

For reference, your rear is right where your front should be.

Unfortunately without the FAD you’re going to have vibration in 2WD and 4H auto with that high of caster, because of the pinion angle…… What you can do is get some front lcas drop brackets to level out the control arms which will help with the steering…. Just be sure to shorten the control arms a little so you don’t increase the caster again…..As for setting toe, here’s a video how to DIY if you want to tackle it……

Why specifically the 24s? what changed? and there is no fad.. Thank you for the information on the toe. One quick question, have you aligned your toe at home?

The FAD box is there on my wife’s 24 Willys but there are no electrical connections. The front driveshaft always spins, and I can always feel the vibrations. It’s either bad alignment or bad pinion angle, gotta choose one of them unfortunately. I did my alignment at home when I upgraded my steering setup, but ultimately ended up taking it in. My guy is old school, doesn’t rely on computers. Just a tape measure and some test drives.

axle centered on body/frame?

And caster way to high... I thought I'd never say that.

caster is high because i set it to 7, i initially had it 6 it was fine, but once i went to 3.5 springs it got weird.. Whats your caster preference?

interestingly, i felt vibrations at 7.5 and 8 degrees caster, so i lowered to 7.. I can easily take it down to 5 and see what changes, but i have to admit i got no vibrations at 7

Set your toe-in to 1/8", and your caster to no more than 6°.

thank you, have you adjusted the toe on your own?
When I was a lot younger..LOL, I ran a front end rack for a large Chevrolet Dealer. In answering your question: There are different ways to do this. I prefer to use a scribe, and scribe the center of each front tire by spinning the tire against the scribe point. This will give you a accurate point to measure front and rear. The video below, uses somewhat of a different approach. What I don't like about this approach, is the sidewall consistancy of the tire, can deviate somewhat, which can affect your measurement. But it maybe close enough to work out O.K. If it was mine, I would just take it to a alignment shop, and have their alignment rack set it.

i have seen this video thank you for sharing.. Perfect, you are the right guy to ask this question then.
When i took it to the alignment rack for a reading, the tech said all it needs is 1/4 turn out, however i wanted to do some research before i aligned the toe (since it hasnt been touched from the factory). I have done as you said had a beautiful scribe all around front both tires.
Edit: I went did what the guy did in the video. I had to adjust the tires out to get to 1/16 toed in front tire thread was 87 5/16 and front rear thread was 87 3/8s.. Went for a test run and the steering wheel over 65 feels better.
