I just called Tom - that guy is hilarious and loves everyone here in the forum. Since he's a Jeep-only shop, they're more attuned to our audience and hence the offering. I think he makes money on this offering from volume rather than margin - which is where most dealers make their money on a warranty. If Tom sells 2-3x more than the average dealer due to low price, not hard to make a margin.

I sent Tom an email this morning (~5:30am) asking for a couple of quotes. He replied to my email by 8am with two quotes - significantly below the prices listed on the Chrysler Extended Warranty website. We exchanged a couple more emails throughout the morning and he seems like a very solid dude.

If I do purchase the lifetime unlimited warranty (very likely) it will definitely be through him!

If you are entertaining the thought of purchasing the Mopar Maximum Care warranty, but the cost of it is a concern, call/email Tom and get the price they are selling it for.

Yes and No, here is what the warranty says

"OBTAINING PLAN SERVICE: To obtain service under this Plan, you should return and present this contract to the Dealer who sold you the Plan. In the event you cannot return the Vehicle to the selling Dealer for service, you may request service from any Dealer within the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico or Mexico.

https://www.factorywarrantylist.com/uploads/3/3/9/4/3394652/jeep_lifetime_warranty_sample.pdf

page 2 paragraph 4.......Your dealer just wants to sell you the plan, but I assume are not willing to match Tom Winkles.....the below quote is for May 2018, I dont know if it is Arizona specific.

"Thanks for your interest in our Mopar extended service contracts. Your price from me for the factory backed Mopar Max Care zero deductible lifetime extended service contract is $4830, (MSRP is $6030) and the $100 deductible option is $2745. Let me know if you have any questions."

I was informed, by Tom Winkels, that to get the transferrable Max Care, here in NC, I’d have to buy from an NC dealer. Hmm...anyone know of an NC dealer offering a good price?

Well, that certainly puts a wrinkle in things. Anybody know if this is state specific? Anybody have any insight on Maryland? I was getting really close to pulling the trigger on this.

Did you talk to the service dept? If the sales department said that it could be they just want to sell you the warranty. The "In the event you cannot return the Vehicle to the selling Dealer for service, you may request service from any Dealer within the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico or Mexico." I would want to hear it from service.

Check the below last page "Plan service will be provided by the dealer who sold you the plan. In the event that you cannot return to the selling dealer for service, you may request plan service from any FCA dealer within the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico or Mexico. If you are unable to obtain plan service from an authorized dealer, call our toll-free number to receive service instructions." Not sure how they cannot honor it......

Yeah, right...they’ll turn servicing your vehicle away :cwl:. I guess they will only service your JL if you bought it from them too...

Tell them you’ll be sure to write that on your sales experience questionairre...lol

We understand how this could be confusing. It will depend on what type of warranty you buy. If you purchase a third-party warranty (not Mopar or FCA related), usually only those can be used with the selling dealer. Many dealers can sell these third-party warranties because all dealers are independently owned and operated.

However, if you do purchase an MVP plan, you should be able to use that at any dealer. I have not heard of anything negating this, such as crossing states lines, etc. as other members have suggested. If you send me a private message with additional details on what warranty you are referring to, I can take a deeper look and clarify this!

Does anyone know if the prorate the parts after a certain time. In other words if I need an alternator at 90k will they pay for all of it or prorate it (like tires and batteries) to only pay 20% of the parts

COVERAGE UNDER THE PLAN: WHAT IS COVERED? The Plan will pay the total cost (parts and labor) less a deductible per visit, to correct any of the following mechanical failures, caused by a defect in materials or workmanship of a covered component and are not covered by the vehicle’s factory warranty. The only exceptions are those listed under “What is not covered by the Plan”.

It will pay for it 100% minus the deductible - might be a charge for the local / state taxes per below (This is from my lifetime $100 deductible)

$100.00 DEDUCTIBLE: You are responsible to pay only the first $100.00 of the total cost of the Vehicle’s covered component repairs performed during each repair visit. Repairs not covered by the Plan are your responsibility. When state and/or local taxes are imposed upon the cost of repairs, you agree to pay state and/or local taxes in addition to the deductible.

And since you mentioned Alternator - here is the "electrical section" of the coverage -

ELECTRICAL: Starter Motor and Solenoid; Generator (Alternator); Engine Control Module - (Single Module Engine Controller) (SMEC); Powertrain Control Module; Distributor; Ignition Module; Ignition Coil; Coil Pack Assembly; Voltage Regulator; Horn and Horn Pad; Transmission Control Module; All Wiring Harnesses; Electronic Fuel Injection System (excluding clogged injectors); Windshield Wiper Motor; Rear Window Wiper Motor; Wiper Control Module; Manually Operated Electrical Switches; Neutral Safety Switch; Temperature Sending Unit/Switch; Oil Level and Oil Pressure Sending Unit/Switch; Body Computer; Body Control Module; Factory Installed Radio, Speakers and Rear Entertainment Systems (Includes CD and DVD Player); Factory Installed Navigation Systems (excludes navigation disc); Audio Amplifier; Height Adjustment Compressor; Gateway Module; Ignition Module, Factory Installed U-Connect System.

So I made a few phone calls today to both Jeep and Tom Winkles and verified a bit of information. They both confirmed that the FCA Max Lifetime warranty is usable at ANY dealer in the US and they can't choose not to service your vehicle, no matter where you bought it. The exception would be a local warranty, but not the FCA warranty. The transferrable portion only applies to NC and FL. Just wanted to clear that up, because I got confused myself.

@NCSUSTATS I think you figured that out as I re-read your initial post. @Latent
