"Safety advocates in Washington have been urging federal regulators and lawmakers in Congress to look into the steering problems with Jeep Wrangler vehicles as far back as 2012.". This is scary, you get the idiots in Congress involved and we soon may not be able to legally drive our vehicles on streets and highways.

FYI: There is a brand new Customer Satisfaction Notification V41 Steering Damper out dated June 2019 affects 2018-2019 JLs that addresses steering wobble. I do not have access to the PDF so I can’t upload it. Maybe someone else can find it and post it. This post also references it - https://www.new-jeep-forum.de/thread/5577-customer-satisfaction-notification-v41-steering-damper/ "The front suspension steering damper on about 18,783 of the above vehicles may not effectively damp oscillation of the steering system, resulting in a sustained shake or shimmy in the steering wheel."

There are several threads about steering shimmy, death wobble, etc. on the JLs:

Here are just two of the threads. There are many threads (see search link above).

Nothing wrong with selling a vehicle with a solid front axle that may be susceptible to Death Wobble, IF you notify potential Buyers of same. Does FCA?

I say fine as long as it results in a legitimate steering fix for everyone. Hell complete steersmart setups for everyone.

Sure this will get NHSTAs attention

Glad the death wobble in mine was already documented by my dealer.

I love some of the comments on the report. It happened 8 times since buying in 2016 and now I don’t drive highways any longer..... if it’s happened 8 times in 2-3 years the. Why you still have the Jeep? Should have sold it back to the dealer lol. And it’s all because it’s solid axel..... hahahahahahhahahaha people are dumb

“The lawsuit seeks damages for affected drivers in the form of a buyback program that requires FCA to pay drivers for defective vehicles and compensation for the loss of value to the vehicles.
Loss of value? With the Jeeps resale value during that time? Customers will owe Jeep.

The NHSTA is already looking at the poor weld quality issue. It might help if a number of folks filed reports of problems with the steering. See https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

Edit: As of now (June 12, 2019), only 38 people have filed a complaint on steering issues. My guess would be that the threshold for action is probably higher than that. See https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2019/JEEP/WRANGLER%2520UNLIMITED/SUV/4WD#complaints
