I saw a preview of the 20th anniversary model That had an onboard air with gauge in the tailgate.

is it capable enough for 35” tires?

can it be ordered from jeep to retro fit?

I have a twin pump ARB unit I’m trying to decide if I should let it go with my old jeep, and get a factory one for the tailgate, or just keep my ARB and find a mounting location for my 2024 392..

I’ve seen very little about the on board one, so I wonder if it was just for advertising but not really practical.

ARB twin would be hard to let go of for me. I don’t even notice mine under the passenger seat until I need it.

Jeep Wrangler JL Factory on board air in tailgate IMG_0057

I posted this before. NSV out of California makes tailgate mounted air compressor systems for both JL and JK’s.This one is actually the JK version I converted as I had a second complete system. The compressor mounts behind the spare tire mount on the outside. I used the first kit on a JK for 5 years with no problems. It was used quite frequently in those 5 years. I swear by this system. It may not be as fast Ada twin, but it will pump up 4 35s in a row. The JL system is $1000 and the JK is $700. It is great as it doesn’t take up interior space. I haven’t heard about factory air systems.

If anyone is interested, attached is the installation manual for the onboard air.

seems a little pricey, although that’s sure a convenient way to use it!

I have a 20A and tried to use the compressor once. I have 37" and I was down to 25psi or so and typically run low 30's. It raised a few psi then shut off. Tried again, shut off. Felt the unit and it was very hot. I think it more of a gimmick than actually functional. It was 90F out so that didn't help. I'll try a few more times to see if something was off the first try but I'm not holding my breath.

Is 20A the stock tailgate compressor found in the 392s?

If you ever want to sell that gimmick, please let me know.

Have you had it fixed yet? It should all be covered by your warranty.

does this sound a little odd? the compressor is outside but then you have to open the door to plug into it. wouldn’t it be more convenient if you didn’t have to open the door to access it?? perhaps there’s a benefit to keeping the connection out of the elements but you’d think some kind of dust cover would take care of that. just seems like an odd design but maybe not? the previously mentioned arb twin is cheaper and likely faster and mounts inside to keep it protected and fits under the seat so it doesn’t take up much valuable interior space. sure, you could store a hat or socks under the seat if you mount the compressor externally but is that worth the added cost and weight on the tailgate? i could easily be wrong, idk.

If history is any guide I'm sure next year the onboaid air and the triple hoop grill guard from the 20A will be factory options for all Rubicons. They just didn't make them options for 2024 because it was too soon given the late release of the 20A.
