Yesterday morning I did the Aux battery bypass by pulling fuse F42 and disconnecting the negative battery cable. We finally have some nice weather in TX so went our for a drive with the Jeep stripped down. Much to my surprise the 1st traffic light I stopped at ESS kicked on. I thought fuse F42 controlled ESS and if that is true how could it still work with the fuse pulled? I also found this odd because before pulling the fuse ESS stopped working about a year ago. It just stopped engaging with no warning lights or CEL codes but now it does all of a sudden.

When you pull fuse 42 it disables the ESS from the auxiliary battery and transfers the ESS function to the main battery. You will still need to push the button or buy an ESS eliminator that plugs in under the dash.

It's interesting that the KL 2019+ Cherokee doesn't use a separate battery for ESS it runs off the main battery. I'm not sure why the JL doesn't work the same way.

There was probably enough room for a sufficiently sized main battery.
