i think im an anomaly. i have a 2018 which is still on the original main battery (knocks on wood). the aux went out in 2020 i think? i just remember ESS stopped working. it hasnt affected my main battery surprisingly. i have almost 25k miles on it. not sure if that makes a difference. i was planning to to pull the fuse/aux cable this weekend but ran out of time. once my main battery finally goes ill get an Optima.

if your battery is fubared but keeps "passing" their test. KILL it. leave the headlights on and drain that sucker. they told me my battery was fine. i went home and left the headlights on until it was DEAD (mustang, not jeep). took it back and they said, this battery is no good. let me get you a new one lol.

not sure on the battery you bought but theres a thread on buying the biggest battery that will fit, the size from the tow package.

I’m the same way. It’s there for a reason and if it’s not doing what it should it will drive me nuts. Swap the battery I’m sure it will be fine. Next time change both at the same time

I’ve been using interstate’s MTZ-48/H6 and their aux battery. I only drive my Jeep on the weekends and for very short drives. ESS works within a half a mile.

Ok.. update
Had battery at garage.
Saying everything is just fine.
Load tested and whatever else they do.
Again saying it's fine.
So I guess when I get home I'm going to put it back in and see what happens..

Everything should have reset since it was out all night..
You had the main battery load tested? Was it disconnected from the vehicle so it could be tested independently?

Did you have the Aux battery independently load tested too? If so, what was the result?

When it was "out all night" does that mean that you had no power to the JL or the Aux battery was still connected. It will be nice for you to deprive the vehicle of all power to let the intelligent battery sensor reset.

Now I'm second guessing the aux battery change.
What else can be causing this.
Is it working after reseting the battery sensor?

Yes load tested. Out of the vehicle
It was tested at the interstate battery shop
All tested fine!
Yes power was off vehicle all night.

Came home put the vehicle back together
And the dreaded battery charging message again
I'm at wits end..
I give up..lol

Please have the ESS/Aux battery independently load tested. Yeah, it's almost new, I know.

@Joeshek, a dual AGM battery JL like yours will, just prior to a cold crank, isolate the ESS/Aux battery for an instant to test it. We need to rule out this battery being a problem, i,.e. that there's nothing wrong with either of the batteries. It is has a problem, this pre-crank test could yield the diagnostic message that you're getting.

Often, if the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) is problematic, such denying of it current from both batteries, as mentioned above by others prior, will reset it. Your problem, if both batteries load test fine, could be a broken IBS, a blown fuse, or some other issue that sadly, a dealer can best diagnose.

Its going into the dealer the 23.
If they are going to Play the start swapping out parts game it's going up for sale

Will it hurt if I just leave my genius 10 charger attached and charging?

Stop charging it, you’re covering up the problem.
