Engine decision

Can anyone shed any light on which they like better and why? I was going to build a jeep with the 3.6 ( That is what I currently have ) but there is one on a lot that is a 2.0. Looking for Pro's / Con's. It is a 2026 Rubicon X.

I believe the 2.0 needs middle grade fuel or better? I also tow a boat.

if you tow then you’ll definitely wanna run mid grade or higher fuel. But it’s like 10-15 bucks difference a tank which personally don’t find to be a huge deal.

I went with the 2.0t cause I liked the low end torque better. Helped I also got a good deal on the jeep

How heavy is your boat ? Including trailer weight…

you def need a Rubicon because the full float rear axle is rated to tow more

Are there any mods on this site? Every. Single. Other. Forum that i've ever been on takes these subjects and creates stickies or pop-ups to ward off the creation of more threads on same. This is the first i've ever seen that does nothing.

It's something that is sorely needed.

We have four (4) of the 3.6 engines in our family. No major issues with any of them. As for the 2.0, it sounds like a sewing machine. My neighbor has one, so I hear him start it up every morning, not for me..

If your boat is over 18', and it has 2 axles on the trailer, then a Wrangler is not the vehicle for you. If it's just a little jon boat, or similar, on a light trailer, either engine will do.

I intentionally went with the 3.6 again because:

- Track record of very high milage on this engine in millions of examples across the country for the last 15 years

- No direct injection

- Less complicated design

- 87 octane fuel

- Every single used 2.0T Wrangler I've seen has had oil leaks or other significant issues prior to 100k miles

Maybe, a manual 2.0 Rubicon X 4 door is the only Rubicon X that can tow 5000lbs. Only 4 door Rubicons with factory 285/70x17 tires and 4:10 gears are rated to tow 5000lbs. The automatic Rubicon X includes the 35 Xtreme Package(35") tires, so no go.

Only the 4 door(Unlimited) has a 5000lb tow rating

The manual Rubicon X does not come with the 35 Xtreme Package, but the automatic does, so no go with the automatic.

The 3.6 requires an automatic to tow 5000lbs. The 2.0 is rated at 5000lbs with either transmission.

OP should clearly go with the 3.6 so he gets to spend tons of time either replacing his intake cams or watching others replace his intake cams. It's so much fun!
